Could have been. It rarely got shield off once we started stunning, so the times I melee'd it were fairly limited. The first time we saw white proc was at the exact moment I closed light, but I don't remember if it was using a TP move then.

Shield makes it take 0 damage from magic until you proc white.

Since you might have noticed it too, here seems as good a place to ask as any:

When you do multiple MB spells of the same element, do you notice a gradual drop off in damage after the first. I keep seeing the same drop offs on Escha NMs and on Vagary MBs.

Example: MBing thunder5 on whale on 3 GEO at the same time yeilds 35K>27K>15-20K in that same order of who nuked 1st/2nd/3rd. Gear is nearly identical and it's happened so much now I can't believe it's resists(not to mention always Idris focus/lang). Whatever it is, it seems to reset fast enough for the second volley of thunder4 on the same MB,but the same gradual scaling down seems to take place.

Was there a change that happened in the past 3 months that I missed when I wasn't playing/keeping up with the game that much to explain this or is it all really resits?

Sadly I have no real data on this as I didn't watch the dmg too closely and always attributed fluctuations to bubbles dropping mid MB. Will keep an eye out.

Any speculation on what else might grant vorseals? Abyssea completon, atma of the savior, max fame in various areas, 100% quest completion, missions.

    There's a lot of possibilities.

I'm hazarding a guess (Which I'll be able to test tonight I hope) that quests like Apocalypse Nigh, and the end of the Wings line, will grant Vorseals.

Something makes me think Dynamis - Xarc and Dynamis - Tav clears reward one each too, but that's baseless speculation.

Also, I think it was reported that Aetheric Pull puts up magic shield, but for us it's been Caudal Capacitor going off that has put magic shield up every time.
We realized when the shield is up, you can still kill it with Manaburn when you just switch to Scission Skillchain and nuke earth. it will drop the shield eventually and you can go back to thunder. If i am right, i think caudal triggers it.

Possible it's just the same reduced elemental damage from the same element that they introduced in 2006 or so? Or did they categorically eliminate it with some other revamp?

I'm almost positive that they implemented a change so subsequent damage of same element on MB. I'm 99% sure.

Even when we were bursting pluton back in April I noticed the gradual decline in burst damage. If you don't hit first mb your dmg is going to be lower. It's one of the reasons I don't bring weak blms to stuff anymore.

Looks like its cause they nerfed magic damage back in july of 2006.

An accumulative magic resistance effect has been implemented for monsters that /check as "impossible to gauge."

    Affected Magic Types
The following magic types will trigger the accumulative magic resistance effect when used repeatedly on monsters whose strength is "impossible to gauge":
    Black magic (elemental)

    White magic (divine)
    Ninjutsu
    Magical Blood Pact abilities
    Magical blue magic
Magical weapon skills (Spirits Within, Red Lotus, etc.)
Certain job abilities (Chi Blast, Mijin Gakure, etc.)

    Resistance Fluctuation
When a monster with accumulative magic resistance is hit by a magic attack, the amount of damage it receives will decrease in accordance with that monster's resistance. At the same time, its resistance will increase.

The monster's resistance will increase in accordance with the amount of damage incurred, but each monster has a maximum resistance level.

I also recall reading this, but when I looked for it just now I couldn't find the link.
Edit: Nevermind Fival just posted it.

This is like nuking 101, i find this remarkably hilarious and terribly sad at the same time.

Like others have pointed out, this has been the way things are since 2006 and does not seem like anything out of the ordinary to me. After that patch was implemented, what you are describing happened to any HNM LS that would do SC+MB for Fafnir and Kirin. Whoever nuked first pretty much got the best damage even if their gear was outclassed by other people participating. This was also an issue for me with a BLM friend of mine when we did the assault Red vs Blue. We'd go ahead to the enemy camp, have someone spawn the mobs, then immediately nuke the leader (an "impossible to gauge" mob) together. Despite our gear being roughly equivalent, whoever landed first got the better damage and the 2nd person always got a cut of some kind.

Are there any tricks to finding gold chests in Escha? I've solo farmed over 800k silt since the update that added caskets, and I've never seen a single one. Do they not drop from all types of mobs or something?

I think it helps if people are killing the dragon and the zone gets bonuses. (Speaking of which multiple free tribs last nigh was super sweet.) But I think the gold chests are still pretty rare - I've seen like 3 in about 600k silt.

    Lowman Vir'ava Strategy:

-Augustus Tank with 50% HP campaign and full vorseals has 3200 HP. Can't be charmed so beautiful death is irrelevant.
-PLD to pop and tank the adds
-GEO and SCH as damage. MB a good Helix II.
-BRD for Marches, INT and maybe Refresh when needed. Possibly 2nd GEO instead.
-WHM to keep Augustus high with Cureskin.

Silence it when possible to limit Meteor spam. Keep Augustus up but do NOT use Caper on him as this will also get the hate of the adds. Used Augustus so far, didn't try Amchuchu yet. Won each time so far but when we found out about the Caper thing <.<

    Slow clap.

    Absolute slow clap.

Same thing as us tanking with PUP, but August probably holds hate better than the puppet. Kept losing hate to T6 nukes.

Thanks for the conformation, but no reason to be a dick. Not like it's clearly posted on the wikis and not everyone has kept up with mage and what was and wasn't changed in the past 10 years.

I've also done nearly every tier1 and 2 with August tanking, minus those annoying-as-hell shield spamming Caturae. I've even done 4man full clear Duskbrood chamber with him tanking all NMs. Words cannot describe the level of boss he is.

Yeah he holds hate well. Sometimes interferes with SCH self SCs. If your Silences stick reliably you can try to not SHELL him as Vir'ava will try to steal it. If you have trouble with landing Silence just dispel and reapply I suppose.
