That's a mechanic of his. You can block it if you proc white (somehow). A better option is to have your tank cast Holy or a high tier Banish after each MB wave.

Yeah but how does this mechanic work exactely?
And how can you rely on "proccing white" if proccing it is random and, in the end, not reliable at all?
Despite the possible stream of dispelling wind I've always found Seiryu a very easy NM that gets incredibily complicated by the fact you can't reliably tank it.
If you nuje him for damage, he will lock hate on you until the next person nukes him for damage (unless he is white proceed). Just have your PLD nuke for damage after your MB round lands. Also, use mana wall, vex/attunrment, and temps. You should be able to pretty sell tank him yourself on BLM.
Battles were taking 7min without Benediction, you just need to get lucky with 0 or 1 bene to win. Few times he did soul voice without wyverns out which we were able to recover from, by sleeping PLD (so he wouldn't run to stairs and get kicked) and gravity/kiting AV until SV wore. Our win rate is 1:4, mostly due to usage of Benediction more than once.
Won last night again as 12 1 in 3 tries with some of our weaker BLMs this time around. It really is just about luck and karma for WoC. i suggest helping some grandmas over the street the week before attempting it.
In a pt of 6 people maybe, not when you have almost a full alliance. Also it wasn't just nukes, sometimes our RDM trying to land debuffs was producing the same result.
I'm not trying to argue for the sake of arguing, I've already killed Seiryu a few times so it's not even like I need it.
I'm not sure the method you suggested for PLD (nuking) would work, because next time a SCH tries to initiate an immanence SC with a Blizzard I, Seiryu is gonna gnaw at him. SCH doesn't have Manawall, and if Seiryu has HF up good luck with that.
Wasting GEO buffs in the mage pt to give Defensive ones instead of the typical Acumen/Malaise/etc doesn't sound optimal buff synergy either.
What I mean to say is: Seiryu is an annoying bitch and I still haven't read 100% clear ways on his enmity thing or to 100% reliably proc white.
We had everyone in one party with an outside GEO doing debuffs last night. Previously when I was solo BLM DD, I had absolutely no issue staying alive using the strategy that I outlined and tanking for a while if needed. I think your PLDs or BLMs need to suck less. They're two of the most durable jobs in the game at the moment. They really should not be dying.
Our RDM last night did claim that he pulled Seiryu's hate with Saboteur Paralyze II, so it could be that successfully landing debuffs can do it too. I nuked for a while double weak on GEO last night to confirm that 0 damage nukes cannot pull hate, though. We did not have any issues with the SCH getting eaten, but it's a mule and I don't know how good/if it has a nuke set. You might consider just doing the Immanence'd nukes in a Terra's Staff to make sure they'll be resisted all to shit and potentially do 0 damage.
Yes the zero damage was confirmed by someone else when Seiryu was released. They used to nuke with no gear/weapon to create skillchain and then MB to death.
I agree with you PLD is one of the most durable jobs in game (and BLM when Manawall is up!) but it wasn't really their survivability that I was concerned about. It's the WHM, the RDM, the GEO who get fixated on by Seiryu, who moves around happily and creates havoc in your alliance.
When he "fixates" on a target, there is no way to get his attention until his target is dead. Or maybe until someone "procs" a fixation on a different target I guess.
I've seen it fixate for:
1) Debuff casting (black magic debuffs at least, not sure on white magic, never happened with songs)
2) GEO-debuff spells cast directly on him
3) Nukes of various quality
With our 12+ people in alliance he's always proved to be annoying.
Melee strat works well, but he needs a fuckton of accuracy (well, now arguably less given the higher cap on Gifts and better acc gear, but back then he was really evasive) and he dispels buffs like COR rolls and BRD songs.
Aside from using SPs, we've only succeded in runs with the least possible people using melee strategy with a couple of strong DDs and no debuff cast on it at all ever during the fight.
Another setup I've personally found to be very easy was a PUG one I joined on my RUN. It was an alliance full of SMNs and BSTs, with CORs using rolls. Don't remember if there were some GEOs as well, possibly.
Was incredibly smooth despite having over 12 people in alliance.
As usual, he's much easier with 6 people than with an alliance of people, but that's certainly not something new, it's been the case for 90% of content released in the past 2 years probably.
Use Vex/Attunement to block Dispelling Wind and don't start feeding him TP until they're up.
I think 1550 Acc is enough to cap hit rate against him (1450 Acc + Idris Torpor). I parsed an 89% hit rate but spent most of the fight in my Haste cap TP set (which had 1432 acc). Looking at the log, I was a little optimistic about our time. The melee kill took 2 minutes and 30 seconds and thus our WAR used Mighty Strikes twice.
Looking at the log from our zerg last night:
* The PLD lost hate after a GEO mule cast Geo-Vex and got it back when he landed a Banish for 14 damage.
* He lost hate once more to a MS WS (which was probably normal Enmity issues) and got hate back with Flash.
* He lost hate again to Saboteur Paralyze II (RDM took 436 damage from Fang Rush) and got it back when he landed Banish II for 7 damage.
* He kept hate for the rest of the fight.
IIRC for Seiryu he goes after whoever does darkness based spells on him.
Our first kill back then was 2x PLD (one BLU sub, one RDM sub) 2x GEO WHM SCH + 2x BLM 2x GEO SCH BRD. One Idris in LS only. Took around 9 minutes.
Second kill was 2x PLD 2x GEO WHM SCH + 3x BLM 2x GEO SCH. BLM damage was spread around 45% 23% 22%. Took 12 minutes but it was actually Light Day.
One of the main problems was to get our token GEOs to understand that they need to Diaga the Wynavs to get them on the hate of their bubbles. But NOT diaga before the PLD had hate.
We have our geo's pull hate casting luopans and brd pull hate landing elegy. We have had nukes not pull hate as well. It more likely has to do with timing in relation to what seiryu is doing or in response to other things being done to him at the same time. Best sure fire method without 1 hour use would more likely be a rng method to do it in a more timely matter.
Ideally you really only need 1 idris for languor/malaise anyway, I think you can get away with a normal GEO for vex/attune. I don't know if one of the PLD/GEO/SCH have different jobs they can play but if you're able to get a RDM and COR in (especially COR), I think you'll find your kill speed to increase considerably thus less benediction buttfucking
We can bring in a lot of stuff including RDM COR RUN etc. We usually do events with 18, which is kind of unique at this point in FFXI as it's basically like playing on HARD MODE. Main focus for now is to get everyone their 1x[*] clear for the Aeonics Quest.Ideally you really only need 1 idris for languor/malaise anyway, I think you can get away with a normal GEO for vex/attune. 10 minutes or under seems to be the magic number for us. We're 10/15 overall since the update, with the last 6 attempts resulting in 5 kills. The only time we "wipe" is if WoC is in charm mode(sometimes he'll just use it over and over) and it uses charm in the 20 second window wyverns are actually out and alive(they die ~4 total -ja and it costs 0 MP to kill them with AF reforge body). Then there's the rare early benediction, which we run from because I've noticed that if it uses it once in a fight, odds are it will keep using it and with sets being so easy to farm with max rare enemy vorseal, it's not such a big deal losing a KI.
But yeah, if we had access to 4 BLM and everyone in our group had revito access, I'd be all over those 3-4min kills.
