I never understand why coaches do this time and time again. They ice their offense, tire their defense, then when they need their offense to be red-hot again they are not able to since they have been chilling for half the game on the sidelines. LSU should have lost this game, and would have if they faced a team with a more effective field goal kicker.

You nailed it. By trying to overprotect the QB they always make it worse. Run on 1st and 2nd, throw on 3rd and long. Hurrrr I wonder why our QB couldn't convert that 3rd and 15? I guess we should do the same thing next time.

The worst part is Brandon Harris has every tool and indicator he can be a very good QB, they just have to fucking turn him loose and let him take his lumps when they come. Shit is beyond frustrating.

Some coaches like to establish the run to set up the pass, but in the last couple of years I've seen it reversed quite a bit too. Coach's strategies are evolving all the time. Some coaches like to take their foot off the gas when they are up by 2-3 touchdowns and that can be problematic if the other team mounts a comeback. Personally I am a fan of full on the throttle offense until you either have a 30+ lead, or 21+ by the start of the 4th quarter. Exceptions can be made though in the event of an injury or a turnover prone QB/RB.
