I don't see the use, I dock my console at night so it charges them, and I don't plan to play for 20h straight without docking

For Odyssey what's the best controller setup to use? I might go hand held a lot, but if I don't, I have a pro controller and all the other options. Idk what Odyssey plays best with. I had some trouble with doing some hat moves when I tried it in the first 10 minutes using the one pad in each hand.

Joycons is best, for hat movement control

Honestly controller preference is a User + game opinion

Exemple Zelda BOTW hated it with Pro controller I loved Joycons
Mario Kart8 not a fan of detached Joycons (it's either Pro or the included grip)

I played 90% of botw probably before the pro arrived then switched, liked both cause I never used joy cons independently anyway they were always on the grip.

Haven't really tried anything else yet to see. I don't even know how Mario will work with pro or in hand held mode.

Yeah, but you have to use the joycons for some of the hat abilities (the spin around Mario is the one that comes to mind).

At first I thought the controls for Mario were wonkey with 2 joycons. After like an hour though I got pretty used to it.

Was like that for the WII era too

Took a few min/hour max to get used it to

fair point, if you take advantage of portable mode often it's not a big deal, but i use it docked pretty much exclusively. having to attach/remove the joycons while the system is docked is awkward and annoying!

No matter what, get a screen protector. This is what I have:

I used the amFilm Switch screen protector...but yes get a tempered glass one. So much better than the plastic ones and still fits in the dock just snugly enough to not get scratched.

Also, would highly recommend a good carrying case just for transport. Find your sweet spot between functionality + compact vs making sure you bring everything (cables, extra joycons, etc). I got the butterfox model and it fits 9 game cards, 2 joycons, the switch collapsible stand, a USBC cord and has a padded flap for the switch itself so the screen remains guarded.

Any downfalls with Butterfox? Was thinking of replacing mine (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1) since that mesh net doesn't do shit.

Mine has a zippered pouch. The Hori stand, USB C, and a usb charger fit in there perfectly fine.

My only complaint about it is there is no space for the pro controller...but you would be sacrificing its compact size for something like that.

You can do the spin without motion controls by just spinning mario + hat throw. The only thing that is motion control only in that game is throwing the hat straight up, but I don't think that is really needed for anything.

100% get a screen protector. This is the one I got after seeing what people recommended awhile back:

    https://www.amazon.com/amFilm-Temper...o+switch&psc=1

Do NOT get the shitty plastic film ones.

As for carrying case, I use the one that came with the BotW deluxe edition.

The case i use is from RDS, $20 at target, it’s small, but comes with a plastic case inside to fit your switch games, and microsd cards. And the joycon attachments too in the zipper pouch.

I'd never used a screen protector for any device before, but I definitely feel like it's a necessity here.

Switch has a plastic screen, which means it scratches (but doesn't shatter) fairly easily. And when it's the main console... that's problematic, with the only recourse being to send it for a repair uncovered by warranty.

Switch is the only thing I use a screen protector on too. Plastic + the fact that it can get scratched putting into the dock is a no no

Yeah same. Was a no brainer to put a screen on that thing with the way it docks.
