Unless I am missing something, I doubt there will be backwards compatibility. Switch games run off of carts. The handheld is exactly what I expected it to be based off of rumors and tons of mockups I have seen over the past few weeks. The base I am more surprised about in terms of its size.

I for one am glad they finally released the info on this. The NintendoNX subreddit was going into chaos as to when news would come out daily...

Pleasantly surprised. I think knowing very early on that this wouldn't be a high-rez contender with PS4 and Xbone tempered my expectations just the right amount. If the controller is comfortable, the games are there, and the battery life isn't complete ass, I'll be in. Not day 1, but I'll definitely buy at some point.

Im seeing some breakdown of the footage shown.

Seems the Splatoon caps have custom hairstyles. Which would mean it is indeed Splatoon 2.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but my large-but-mundane concern, being a nitpicky little shit, is that all of these detachable components are going to get lost very easily by inattentive children/parents and I imagine they won't be cheap to replace.

A nice heaping of 3rd party support is very promising but coming out in 5 months more or less means that the launch lineup, whatever it is, is already set in stone almost. Hopefully we see at least one system seller that isn't Zelda and try not to rely heavily on "look, we can do Skyrim on a Nintendo now!" ports.

I'm not really sure why everyone thinks this is so good. It's basically the WiiU but with MORE parts you have to replace if you lose/break them. It doesn't fix anyone's gripes with the system (low res compared to other consoles, expensive components) but rather makes it even more complex. Trying to imagine using that tiny little controller and the hand cramps that would ensue, especially for people with larger hands. Notably they showed only adults playing the system in the video, but I can only think those tiny things were designed for tiny child hands. The only thing that looks extra promising over the WiiU is the number of developers onboard, but again...the hardware doesn't seem like it's going to be anything particularly special. I suppose I'm simply over consoles in general, they've lost their place in the world with PCs able to do everything and more. PC master race.

Honestly, there is nothing wrong with the Wii U except branding and its programming devkit which made it hard on developers. This seems to solve those issues.

Well I like the idea of a portable console so that appeals to me. It was what the vita was supposed to be but never lived up to it since the VitaTV was soo far behind, that, and not many developers were onboard for the vita and it showed.

If the NX can get a solid list of games for it and if its backwards compatible then its day 1 for me. I actually like the WiiU for what it is, but it lacks games even after its X years of life, and being forced to use a gamepad when I just wanted to use a dualshock bothers me.

I am not sold on this. The idea is okeish but not really needed. Dont know what to make out of this, usually when i am on the way i play on smartphones (i barely touched my 3DS since 1 year) :/

Dude, this thing is going to sell like mad. This is going to blow the Wii sales out of the water. When general public finds out that you can do netflix/hulu streaming and what not with it on the fucking go and around the house at will. Game oven.
Seems like there will be no support for dvds and blurays though.

Also, I am assuming Nintendo did an amazing job at cable management for the video, because I couldnt see any hdmi(or power cable) connected to the dock.
Assuming games will be sold in SD cartridges.

That's nothing that any tablet can't do and most likely for longer periods of time and on a bigger screen. the streaming I doubt is the selling point

This system is going to sell more than 102 million units? I highly doubt it. Wii sales were absolutely fucking ridiculous. To put it in perspective, PS4 has sold approximately 40 million units. Nintendo DS has only sold about 50 million.

I doubt it touches anywhere close to that number. Wii came out and dominated because it's lowest price point was $150. This system cannot and will not do that with the hardware it is using.

That being said, I'm not getting burnt again. I got some use out of Wii/U, but until this system can prove it's going to actually receive more than bare bones support, they aren't getting my money.

I may have been a bit overzealous in that statement. But I do believe it will push a lot of units. Would have been better to launch before holiday season though.

Besides Zelda, we are probably looking at DQXI, Skyrim remastered, NBA2K17, Splatoon, a new Mario (Mario Switch?), and maybe a new Metroid within the launch window. The latest Smash Brothers is also rumored to be ported over.
