LOL! "We promise 3rd party support this time for cereal!" Except they didn't show jack shit about any new games. The same exact broken promise and suckers eat it up every single time.

I give it six months before nintendrones are waiting 6-9 months between releases of anything relevant to play.

Pardon my ignorance because I may have skimmed it, but do you need the dock to charge? Or is it like the Wii U controller where you can just plug the controller right into an outlet if needed?

so, the whole system is just a tablet with a docking station? that will result in underpowered/overpriced hardware that again won't be compatible with new AAA games. I fully accept that i may be wrong, but i predict flop. even if the target is mobile gamers, the vita was a flop and the DS has done great. nintendo is going after the vita market with this?

I just can't believe Nintendo got up one day and was like "um...yeah why don't we compete directly with the currently oversaturated tablet market". Especially if it doesn't support apks, which I see no reason for why it would.

How the fuck are they competing with the tablet market? Is there anyone out there who thinks "Well I've already got an iPad so I don't need this"

This is more like making the Android console market a real thing. Nvidia canceled their latest version of Shield to support the Switch.

As a consumer apparently targeted by Nintendo, since I'm a gamer and all, I have less interest in this because it's engineered to be reminiscent of a tablet instead of a home gaming console. With specific design choices comes other sacrifices, and considering I don't even use my current phone or tablet for long gaming sessions like those required by most of the games I'm playing on consoles, I don't see the appeal of taking the switch on-the-go when I don't even have time to boot up and play a " home console" on the go. That right there, on its own, eliminates the biggest selling point of the Switch for me. I'm either driving, doing an activity with other people, or just plain working. Heavy gaming happens when I get home (or a friend's home).

Incoming anecdote, but there's a reason so many of the most popular mobile games are designed to be playable in really short sessions. It's also a reason I don't play mobile games as often as console games. I see them as completely different markets, and Nintendo trying to reach into both just means they're not trying harder to reach me.

Well, that and a lack of shown or even announced 3rd party games. If the ports don't compare to other consoles or pc, why bother? And Nintendo has three (3!) generations of shitty 3rd party support to back this up.

Well, this is coming in March instead of Nov/Dec because of the lack of supported games, imo. I'm sure we will see a lot more announced in the next few months. Bethesda doesn't want to announce Skyrim for Switch because they want gamers to purchase the PS4 & XBone versions without holding off for another version.

So because they made it a device with an on the go option that means all the games are mobile inspired shovelware? Ignoring that the video is showing off Zelda, Skyrim, Splatoon, NBA 2k, etc?

this sentence right there gives me flashbacks to previous nintendo consoles with shitty 3rd Party support. I agree on Salodin, i really dont see the point of this console. I would only find it attractiv if it would support 3DS games: basicly Nintendo combining their Handheld and Console market into one.

    I never said that?

If you need what I said in laymen, I said if they're not offering anything different from competitors other than the on-the-go gaming reminiscent of tablet/mobile gaming, then why should I give them the time of day? They have proven to be incompetent in maintaining 3rd party support, regardless of the promises made before the launch of their newest console (we promise we have support this time guyz!). It's a console promising to have similar strength to consoles that are years old; consoles that are getting updated hardware to accommodate newer technologies (hi2u 4k gaming in the coming years).

It's a legitimately mobile Wii U, and if the Wii U was legitimately mobile it still would have flopped because the games that are there are better elsewhere or just plain ol' not available on it. Did the incredibly short reveal trailer alleviate any of these concerns? NOPE.

Why would you own any console when a PC offers a superior experience at effectively every turn? Oh right the exclusives, of which Nintendo is almost always considered to offer the best of the best in that department. 3rd party support is a concern for Nintendo, and we'll have to see how that plays out.

With both Sony and Microsoft requiring developers to continue supporting the current versions of their consoles for the entire lifespan of their existence, I wouldn't be remotely concerned with the system necessarily falling behind in the power department (especially if it's using a Pascal version of the Tegra like some rumors say). The only issue would be it being based on ARM instead of x86, but we're talking about a very widespread architecture that is quite easy to code for unlike in previous generations where console manufacturers would be offering wacky shit like the Cell in the PS3.

This is what gets me. Just want a normal console experience, never remove the tablet. Unlike the Wii U, the only things we've seen so far is a normal console experience + extra options.

Hey, if you don't have a problem with what Nintendo has been doing for over a decade, then don't let me rain on your parade. There are plenty of reasons to want a console, none the least that more of my friends have consoles than pcs that can handle today's newer games.

I think the sad truth is even if the Switch has 3rd party support people will still buy those games for PC, PS4 and XB1 over the Switch.

That being said Nintendo needs to do something different than the others. If Nintendo released something along the lines of PS4 Pro would that really make much of a difference? Wouldn't people just get the Pro instead?

What really hurts Nintendo is every time they make a new console now they are starting the eco system over again. When going from 360 to XB1 or PS3 to PS4 its easy since all your info is tied to your account where with Nintendo you can't just bring over your Nintendo ID since nothing is even tied to that.

I only buy nintendo consoles for 1st party games anyway.
Everything else I buy on PC. I have a ps4 and wii u that i dont use, along with two 3ds. I do not own a tablet. So I wouldnt mind this.

I think people are taking the option of using this as a tablet too far. Yes, you can take it on the go, but it is still a home console. I will be using it at home, along with the majority of the users. As long as it performs that function well, idgaf about all the tablet complaints.
I am excited about it because it has the potential to be the only hub for ALL Nintendo titles, handheld and console. If I can get a console based, full HD and portable pokemon game, I am all for it.

Crystal Chronicles lan parties or just online play, all for it
Much crisper 1080p Nintendo 1st party titles, all for it

idgaf about 20 fps 4k games, idgaf about cross platform games
If I want high end graphics, I'll play on PC

Nintendo just needs to come through will quality games.

so far my nintendo account on rewards digital purchases at the moment and this thing wont be rocking any type of HD thats for sure. SD cards that come that big either so unless they start rewarding physical purchases again my nintendo rewards are going to become completely worthless. Unless they came up with their own proprietary memory format that can be up to 1T and SD card size.
