Well, never, because I plugged in the controller and played while it was charging. That's the point.

Now, the reverse scenario: you've never plugged in a controller that needed a charge so you could continue playing?

Since all gamestops are sold out or stopped pre-orders I was told I can't get the wiiU trade in bonus, unless they get more consoles and can add more pre-orders and I get lucky enough to get one of them. Dumb.

Not a quality tempered glass protector. Those things are the bees knees. I swear by them for every phone I've purchased. Much more responsive then the plastic ones, only downside is you get one GOOD drop before they shatter, but it's better they shatter then your actual screen.

Lifetime warranty on them, pay $5 for shipping and you get a new one. Can't go wrong with tempered glass protectors, those things are god tier.

My understanding is that the controller grip that comes with the system is just plastic and can't charge the Joycon at all. I am certainly open to correction.

As I understand it, with the stock retail console, if your Joycon batteries die your only option is to attach the Joycon to the sides of the tablet and play WiiU style.

No. You have to buy an extra device that looks the same but costs $30 to do that.

As far as I know, the only recent statement regarding that said they might not be in at launch.

If I remember correctly, the Wii-U didn't have Netflix at launch either. It's important to remember that every single Nintendo system has had multimedia functions, including the 3DS. To assume the Switch won't is absurd.

Polygon confirmed this. There are three ways to charge the JoyCons:

1) Connected to the switch in console mode
2) Connected in handheld mode while charging with supplied USB-C charger connected to the port at the bottom of the screen
3) Using the $30 JoyCon Charger.

Ughhhh...that's not the deal breaker but god damn at least make some kind of USB passthrough for your plastic controller. Still though, most users could leave it next to the bed/couch for up to a week before having to leave it on the unit overnight. Non-problem, but still such a cheap easy fix that idk why they didn't include it. Oh wait...I do...

Well the grip isn't just plastic, it has LEDs to indicate what player # you are, similar to the PS3 controllers so it will consume power from the joy cons. The amount of power for the LEDs will most likely be nothing though, but seriously i looked up how much the ports are they are like .10 each for 10, nintendo definitely could have gotten them for like a penny each for a bulk order lol another penny for some wire? oh no now nintendo bankrupt!

It doesn't. I forget which manual or video I saw, but it's actually just a windowed tunnel that allows the green light from the joycon to shine through the grip. The base grip is literally just a piece of plastic to hold them.

I don't think any of it matters. There'll likely be a 3rd party offering that allows you to just lay your joycons into a charging base to charge them for $20-30 just like there is for PS4 and Xbox.

Well I wasn't paying attention and I see there are two chargers: One that is the charging base stand that can charge up to 4 JoyCons and an actual Charging Grip that can charge as you play. I can see why people are pissed about it not being packaged with the Switch.

I think the charging base is a licensed third party product, similar to the charging controller stands for PS3/PS4/etc. There are also non-charging JoyCon grips by PowerA listed on Gamestop's site.

I actually just changed my preorder to add the charging controller grip at GameStop so that's done. Seems like a better option than the charging dock unless I get an extra pair of JoyCons.
