Can't those cards go into the 50-60 gig range relatively cheaply? It could be a case where there is 2-3 gigs reserved on each card they put out to write update info onto it.

I remember reading somewhere that the general purpose 'standard' size Switch cards would be 16 gigs, with larger games getting larger storage on a per release basis.

That's because they bought the extra stock of those giant cases from SEGA before switching to jewel cases.

    Switch x JOHN CENA
Imagine driving in the middle of the desert and seeing a couch, TV and video game system in the middle of nowhere, or skiing down the side of a mountain and seeing another one of these surprising setups sitting there in the snow, ready for a round of gaming. It’s a striking visual, sure, but it drives home the message of Nintendo Switch, Nintendo’s revolutionary new video game system that launches on March 3. Nintendo Switch is a home gaming system with the portability of a handheld. The system lets you take home video game experiences anywhere you go, offering you the freedom to play where, when and how you like.

To showcase this unprecedented new style of console gaming on the go, Nintendo is showcasing the versatility of Nintendo Switch across the country with highly visual, interactive living room-inspired spaces in places you would never expect, bringing surprises to every stop. The first Nintendo Switch experience will pop up in the desert at Blue Cloud Movie Ranch on Feb. 23. Invited guests will get the chance to enter the interactive space and experience different Nintendo Switch games, as well as delight in the novelty of playing these games in a completely unexpected locale.

To make the first stop even more exciting, John Cena will be the special guest at this location. As a WWE Superstar and actor who is as versatile as the Nintendo Switch console itself, the performer (and Nintendo fan) Cena is the perfect person to kick off this unique tour. Known for his charisma and family-friendly appeal, John Cena will showcase the face-to-face off-TV functionality of 1-2-Switch, a Nintendo Switch launch game that features hilarious activities like milking a cow and participating in a Wild West duel. Cena will play the game with invited fans and YouTube influencers, highlighting how fun it is to play 1-2-Switch using the innovative new Joy-Con controllers.

The second Nintendo Switch experience will pop up in Aspen, Colorado, on Feb. 27 at the popular Snowmass ski resort. Again, the unexpected location highlights that Nintendo Switch games can be played anywhere – even somewhere as remote as the side of a snowy mountain!

The final stop on the Nintendo Switch journey will be in Madison Square Park in New York on launch day, March 3. Surrounded by excited fans and curious onlookers, the event will kick off a new era in Nintendo gaming. Two famous (and super) brothers named Mario and Luigi will also attend the final event to celebrate launch day.

“The upcoming launch of the unique Nintendo Switch console calls for a unique series of celebrations,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “These unexpected locations perfectly highlight the features of the new system, as well as provide one-of-a-kind surprise-and-delight moments that Nintendo does best.”

Each of these Nintendo Switch experiences will be an absolute spectacle, featuring visuals that remind people of home gaming, but set in wildly unexpected places. Seeing these familiar settings set against dazzling backdrops like the open desert, snowy mountains and bustling city will drive home how Nintendo Switch transforms any space into a place to play.

The specific times and locations for each event are as follows:

    The Desert – Invite only
    Feb. 23, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. PT
    Blue Cloud Movie Ranch
    20019 Blue Cloud Rd.
    Santa Clarita, CA 91390

Aspen – Open to the public
    Feb. 27, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. MT
    Snowmass Village
    45 Village Square
    Snowmass Village, CO 81615

New York – Open to the public
    March 3, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. ET
    Flatiron Plaza
Broadway between 23rd and 24th St.
    New York, NY 10010

Nintendo Switch launches worldwide on March 3 at a suggested retail price of $299.99. Two stylish versions of the system will be released: a version with a set of gray Joy-Con, and a version with one neon blue and one neon red Joy-Con. Both versions will have the same suggested retail price.

At home, Nintendo Switch rests in the Nintendo Switch dock that connects the system to the TV and lets you play with family and friends in the comfort of your living room. By simply lifting Nintendo Switch from the dock, the system will instantly transition to handheld mode, and the same great gaming experience that was being enjoyed at home now travels with you. The portability of Nintendo Switch is enhanced by its bright high-definition display. It brings the full home gaming system experience with you to the desert, on a snowy mountain or even during a busy city commute.

I never knew how hollow my life was until John Cena began supporting the switch.

Now all the world needs is a poorly edited Switch promo that changes from normal console commercial to JOHN CENA!!!!!!!!!

No VC at launch is hopefully due to them figuring out how to link game purchases to the universal format across the eShop.

If it starts getting into May or June, then I'd be worried. 90% of people are going to be playing Zelda to be honest and won't really care that the VC isnt operational until, say, early April.

The fact that eshop funds will be accessible across systems is a good sign.

If Wii U is any indicator, VC launched like 5 months later (a couple VC titles came in those in between months, but regular additions to VC didn't start until late April)

For Wii it was available in the launch window.

No VC at launch is dumb. They get so much money out of dumbs like me purchasing the same title on 5 different consoles. The gamecube rumors better be true. They need some serious software movement because they don't have shit beyond Zelda right now.

Man, I want whatever optimism pills you're taking. When has Nintendo ever made an effort to not make money? It's clear they're not out to please fans with this console, despite their thinking. Pay for an online service that gives you one retro game a month and then takes it away. I mean your library is in the thousands, and you can't let people "keep" your cheap ass ROMs? Give me a break.

When people are buying Super Mario World or Metroid for the 5th time, and then complaining about it, it's nobodies fault but their own because they shell out the money every time, and Nintendo knows they will.

With as quick as they're pushing this console out, it's doomed. I'll eat my words if it succeeds, but I doubt it. Has failure written all over it. Why not just do all the shit you need to and release holiday 2017? There's no other consoles coming out around that time. I doubt Scorpio gets released this year.

At least on the Wii U they didn't make you fully repurchase games, but gave you a discount... that's a sign they were moving in the right direction.

Combined with connection Nintendo IDs to Nintendo Accounts, and game purchases being tied to Accounts and not consoles, it does seem like moving to a universal purchase is the direction everything is heading.

I don't know about "written all over it." Their controlled numbers for release have succeeded and pre-orders are sold out absolutely everywhere. This will be a system that you can't have even if you want it for awhile. If they have a terrible showing at E3 then I'll say this was a mistake. However, if what they do is continue to artificially inflate demand by controlling supply and then come June announce an awesome line-up right as they suddenly restock stores everywhere, then that will keep them going strong at least long enough for them to follow up with some blistering hot holiday releases/bundle deals.

So I'm not going to make any judgments until after June, basically.

Normally, I would be a little upset with no VC at launch. Even with my Nintendo goggles on.

But im willing to let it slide because A) Zelda and B) if they're truly moving forward with the equivalent of a PSN or XB Live login, then thats worth the delay in my eyes.

Delayed game can be great, hastily released game is bad forever, etc.

Also, with the amount of feedback people are likely giving Nintendo about their online service, expect those parameters to change in the consumer's favor.

Day One update adds additional Online functionality & Memory Card expansion
    The features inaccessible include:

    • Linking Nintendo Account to your profile
    • Adding friends
    • Receiving News
    • Accessing eShop
    • Posting screenshots on social media
    • Sending/Receiving Miis
    • Software Updates
    • Connecting My Nintendo Rewards Program

The system update doesn’t just hinder online services, but also your ability to use a Micro SD card.

Nintendo has confirmed that this update will be available before launch, so anyone picking up the Nintendo Switch on March 3rd will have access to all these features after updating.

    UI/OS preview
Nintendo is clearly targeting a very clean user interface. With little to no background music — or even sound for that matter — everything operates minimalistically to streamline people to the main function of the console: games. While it was rumored before in both leaked photos and video, the Switch also sports two themes on Day 1: Basic Black and Basic White. The obvious implications is that more themes will likely be available in the future — perhaps for purchase on the eShop.

Because DualShockers is working on an early review console, we don’t yet have full systems access.

Also worth noting, Nintendo Switch’s operating system is refined — likely partially due to how basic it is. Those with longer institutional memories will remember that the Wii U launched with an incredibly unstable OS with long load times for even the more simple processes. None of that is present with the Nintendo Switch — everything is smooth, responsive, and quick (both docked and undocked).

As notable as what is included in the console is what isn’t included. From our time with the Nintendo Switch, we’ve found no indication of any trophy/achievement system. That said, My Ninendo has been the driving force of “achievement-based gameplay for Nintendo.

Setting up the system is just as, if not more, streamlined than the UI itself. Taking less than a minute to get everything set up, players are able to jump right into the action.

While I was using the console on-the-go, I was able to test out WiFi access on WiFi’s that require browser authentication and agreement of terms. As expected, without an Internet browser on Day 1, players will be unable to connect to these networks.
