Based on what https://www.twitch.tv/maximilian_dood just said if you're having cartridge problems just plug in headphones into the dock and it'll work. Based on what someone sent him.

So I managed to snag a Switch because Amazon Prime made it available for Prime only members at 3AM on Friday, delivered the next day.

I haven't had any problems with the Joycon or anything else. I do have a singular dead pixel, but it's honestly not troublesome enough for me to return it.

I honestly feel like Nintendo has hit a near home run on this device. Obviously, we're on a gaming forum, so people are going to be more aware of all the technical aspects and such, but regardless of it's lower power/resolution/etc, this thing is fucking awesome, and works well for so many different groups of people.

Nintendo says that unplugged, with default screen brightness, that it should run for three hours if all you did was play Breath of the Wild, which is a game that really pushes the system. Three hours battery life for a portable doesn't seem that great, but in retrospect, it feels like "almost" enough to me. If they could've gotten it to four hours, it would've been amazing.

Dock is great, and I've played on it, but I like that I can just grab it and chill in bed or on the couch and still get 90% of a console experience. There's a Tales of games being worked on for it, a new Fire Emblem game, and of course the other typical Nintendo Fare. Being able to have indies/third party stuff is going to be a big deal if they can get the price lower (I Am Setsuna at full price so long after release? No). It's more important how they get up their eShop/Virtual Console. There is a metric fuckton of games people love and would love to have a truly portable console version of.

There are definitely some medium level kinks to work out, I feel: The Joycon are OK, but I feel they could be improved with both the D-Pad and size and placement of buttons to something a little more ideal (Hitting -/+ is hella annoying sometimes when they're attached to the Switch). The little "kickstand" that hides the SD Card slot is failed potential, it's too small and unstable, and I'm certain they could do something much better there. Basically, I expect the next revision of the device to fix all the annoying little flaws with some small improvements. It's physical stuff is like 90% perfect, 10% "please fix these annoying issues". If Nintendo can get their online services working well, keep the firmware simple and not violently rape your wallet for the eShop, this thing will be a game changer.

I don't view the Switch so much as a traditional console, but "Hey, Nintendo made a tablet that does Nintendo stuff with attached controllers." I never had any expectation for PS4/XB1 level of power, yet Zelda looks pretty damn good and loads pretty damn fast to boot. There have been plenty of tablets/phones with accessories meant to make them into gaming devices, some are half decent, but none of them really holds a candle to a tablet specifically built for gaming. I think of the recent mobile Fire Emblem game, and think the switch is a device that would let all the people who enjoy that sort of thing in a more "console" like manner, a more engaging experience, without all the bullshit. And of course, to top it off, you get games that are full console level that are actually freaking portable. Xenoblade 2? Shit, sign me up.

Certainly future support will add things like Netflix or Twitch, and I try to view this through the point of view of myself as I grew up: If you gave me this thing when I was 12? Holy shit I never would've left my room. It would've come with me on the schoolbus, to friends places, everything. College/Uni? Longer travel times, more public use, first apartment/dorms, etc? Perfect for that stuff. If it can really catch on as a "party game" thing like the Wii did, that's just another selling point.

Are there any better screen guards than the 1 sheet provided in the official Switch branded version?

I installed it nearly perfectly only to find i was thismuchoffcenter on the top right edge and its annoying the crap out me. Luckily I was able to have it install cleanly outside that.

Broke down and bought a charging controller for the joycons. It's what it is, but not worth the 30 I paid for it. Holding off on a pro controller likely until Mario.

The controller does feel more and more like a wavebird. Its not uncomfortable at all, even for long extended play.

The joycon grip is useless imo ( unless you have more the. 1 joycon set) just dock the console with joycon when you don't play and he will charge.

As for screen I used te hori one and ATM it's fine hoping it won't scratch my screen heh

I got the starter kit that came with a protector after hearing about the docking scratch scare. Haven't had an issue yet. Some people are reporting their screen protectors adhesive releasing and pealing off due to the heat from the console being docked but I haven't had that issue yet. I let the console sit overnight after applying the screen protector just in case to let the adhesive set.

So the left Joycon connection issues seem to be that there is no attached antennae... it's built right into the PCB and right next to the metal cage for the analog stick.

Supposedly after the software patch, people who still have Left JoyCon issues need to go into the system software, select the option to disconnect the joycon, and then reboot the system and pair it. People have reported success via that method.

I feel bad for everyone having left Joycon issues. Mines worked perfect out of the box.

Thats a little later than I expected, even though they said Holiday 2017.

Was expecting it to be a wild card they could throw out if Switch sales were okay-ish but not hot and say "Guess what? Mario is coming early!".

That can't be right, because its a Monday... Unless do European release on Mondays? I thought they were Wednesdays...

Regardless if that date is right for EU, then Nov 17th would be likely NA release.

Early adopters, etc, but those controller sync issues are beyond alarming. Any other Nintendo release have these type of issues?
The sync issues were fixed by day 1 firmware updates, as far as I'm aware.

I got a pro controller because I'm a useless shill and it's probably the second comfiest one I've used behind the xbone

Enjoying the joycons with the little thing they slide into for zelda, but seeing how great the pro is I wish I shelled out for one. As long as I have it for future games the out of the box set up is fine for zelda for me.
