I'm not defending the lack of media features, but I don't really understand the complaint being a deal breaker either. Between phones, tablets, smart TVs, PCs, laptops, other gaming systems, your smart fridge, likely a toaster somewhere, etc, you're already covered. Reggie put out in an interview today that they're in the process of working with Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon to get those functions on the system, but that it's not a priority since they're not a differentiator to the system.
You don't use them like I do, hence it's not a deal breaker for you. My Wii U sees more multimedia use than any other electronic in my home. And the fact that I can switch over to play a game only sweetens the deal.
Virtual console going to be huge for me this time around. Wife really wants to play some older games, already got crash bandicoot pre-ordered for PS4. Need VC ASAP for other things.
Between this and a lot of indie titles I'm stoked to have this console. I rented Rayman Legends and basically being able to buy a full HD mobile version is sweet. Like having Rayman Origins on the Vita.
So update on the JoyCon issue, opened mine up and was curious what the differences were.
What I said before was true, but is compounded by something that's just absolutely stupid; for some reason the left joycon doesn't have a properly exposed antenna on the wireless chip(it's behind the metal part and blocked by the joystick)
This isn't exactly abnormal in electronics, but it's confusing because the right joycon does have a proper antenna...this means the left joycon is significantly more subject to wireless interference and signal blockage.
So the good news, there's a joke easy mod that entirely fixes the left joycon(about the easiest hardware mod possible for anyone experienced with electronics), because the trace for attaching an antenna is exposed and easily accessible, so simply soldering a wire to the antenna trace will make it completely operational as the right one.
I'm hoping Nintendo comes to their senses on this and recalls the left joycon for affected users to make this minor alteration, but if not, I'm willing to do the mod for free to BG members(just pay shipping both ways), if it's making the switch unusable for you personally.
It's not a big deal for me, but of course I'd like to have Netflix on it. It's more for the convenience, sometimes you're just lying in bed and it's neat to have a decently large screen. Usually I use my phone for that, Youtube some shit for a few minutes, but it'd still be nice.
Virtual Console could/should be huge on the Switch. Such an incredible catalog of games I'd be willing to buy if the price were right.
I didn't realize how difficult it was going to be to get one of these, none available until late April wtf
I'm regretting not getting the case as well on releaseThe official nintendo one is the only one that comes with a screen protector, and I'll be damned if i'm paying 10-20$ more for a protector and a generic case. I'm still amazed the Pro Controller costs 90$ (Canada here yo), which is frankly fucking absurd.
Okay so I haven't paid much attention to the Switch at all until I just got it.
Is there any word on backwards compatibility? I only have 2 unfinished games on the Wii U (Xenoblade and bayonetta 2) and I'd love to sell that system off if I can get them on the Switch.
Realistically I would not expect Wii U games to appear on the Switch unless they do full on re-releases, simply throwing them up in an emulation shell like most Virtual Console games wouldn't work.
As we're seeing with cemu, Wii U emulation requires a decent amount of horsepower, far more then a mobile ARM processor could provide.
That sucks. I guess I better beat those games so I can sell that system >.O
Though with something like Xenoblade 2, I could see a "Bayonetta 2" type of deal that ports the original game over to Switch.
The Sheikah Slate case that came with the special edition of Breath of the Wild is a pretty good case for carrying the Switch
