    Assembly Language

I'm not really sure if there is a different place to ask school related questions, but it is also tech related!

Does anyone know of a good book, or online resource for studying assembly? Specifically using Visual Studios, understanding 2's complement in assembly, where to find BH and BX registers in 32 bit, and anything else that pops up in Assembly Language for x86 Processors 7th edition by Kip Irvine.

I really don't understand how school choose textbooks, or the questions they ask regarding said textbook. I need something to help me understand all this shit.

Do your profs give zero fucks about their students? The prof should have something to help with this if you ask during office hours, email/etc, ask the TA (if there is one), or ask/team up with your peers. Outside of that, you should brush up on your google-fu since this sounds like something you'd get at the start of your class unless I'm really far off. Also, the book's resources might help with something eventually: http://kipirvine.com/asm/ If this is near the start of class, and you're already getting stuck, not a good sign .

This professor really doesn't seem to give a shit about anyone. The class is online, and sadly he is the first professor I have come across that is such a dick when it comes to asking questions. Every time someone asks a question that he should answer he just says "why don't you research it and post what you found" or some shit. However, people seem to have given up on that quickly because whatever they find tends to be wrong. That link you posted is the link to setting up VS for the use with the book, but it doesn't address questions the professor asks. Already went through all of that before doing any class work since it was needed to access the first assignment. Did everything according to the book, and basically got slapped in the fucking face with a big "your wrong". Based on an announcement the professor posted a lot of people must have fucked up, but no feedback as to what the fuck was done wrong. Just "review your notes from a previous course" lol. We don't have any god damn notes from a previous course because this is an introduction to assembly course. Also, yes the class just started last week. Looks like this will be the first course I drop at this school if I can't find anything that can answer the bullshit questions this guy wants answered.

Damn sounds like a dick prof. It might make a difference if you complain to the school's dean, and as a group with classmates, over this guy's dickatude.

If you're still going to try to continue for the time being, see if you can find some other university's notes or assignments close to the subject. I don't know if this helps but I found this in a quick search: http://www.cs.virginia.edu/~evans/cs216/guides/x86.pdf Seems to have some basic explanation on registers and other stuff, but none for how visual studio might do it. Or see if anyone in your other courses knows/is someone that took the class previously (also to see if being a dick is normal to that prof, more fuel).

It might help other people to help you if you were to post the specific questions your dickfessor gave you that you're having trouble answering. I know you want to learn it yourself, but this is where a teacher would normally explain why what you have is wrong and not working, and how to correct it. So if someone here can do that for you in his place that would probably be most beneficial.

Oh man you are in for a world of hurt. Assembly is bad enough without your professor attempting to sabotage you. If your school has a physical presence I suggest a trip to your Dean's office immediately, and bring supporting documents with you. Beyond that, I'm not that great with x86 assembly as most of the stuff we did was in MIPS, but 2's complement isn't bad to explain if you need a hand with that.
