I really don't get the hype for this game at all. It looks boring and so gimmicky. It's like some facebook fad has taken over and people are forcing themselves to play it to fit in or something. I just don't see how its fun if someone could explain lol.

It is kind of a fad and will probably die quickly if they don't implement stuff like training and face to face battles soon.

That said I mean, it's pokemon in the real world. It's very easy to see where the appeal is even if it's little more then just catching them atm.

you'd be all over this shit if it was digimon

also there is a patch that bypasses the jailbreak detection.

People have wanted to go out and catch pokemon in the real world since the original game boy game was released, and this is their first shot at it. If Nintendo is smart, they'll bankroll further development of this, or drop the publisher and do it with someone else, adding the improvements required.

The main problem I see is that people starting a year from now won't have shit to do because all of the gyms will be guarded by full platoons of 2K+ pokemon, and right now, unless you can knock off one during training, you get nothing for your effort. They'll need a matching system of some sort, related to CP, so that people can really train and level up outside of the current gym system.

I feel like between the servers completely shitting the bed and the non-existent direct player interaction, they really missed their window. It could easily be something fantastic 6 months from now, but it will have come and went in that time period unless they get a real hustle on fixing their shit.

Working while the screen's off, push notification, fixing servers/login, friends list, trading (both pokemon and items), battles, and smoothing out stop/gym density (should never really be more than half a mile from something in a populated area). That's all it needs in my book to go to something I could see myself playing long-term. Then maybe drip feed small updates every 1-3 months that add in the new generation pokemon. Not a full generation at once, but maybe ~20 at a time.

I'm not impatient, I'm having fun with it, going outside and walking around the neighborhood with my brother and catching stuff... but my immediate wishlist is

    1) Trainer Battles
    2) Trading (Items, Pokemon)
    3) Bug Fixes, Server Stability
    4) Higher Pokemon density.*

You add those and I'm set for a while. I personally do not want to battle wild Pokemon, would take too long and interrupt the idea of walking and catching, that and I dont want to walk down the road of "Fuck I killed it again" like I do in normal Pokemon games if I dont want to carry a False-Swipper. I like the combat if they can flesh it out a bit, make it a bit more stable. Down the line i would really RE-HE-HEEEAALLY enjoy Shiny Pokemon being super rare but possible, but that can wait til down the line, I'd just like it.

*As for Density, I feel like some areas are just plain too boring with Pokemon few and far between. Especially my brothers neighborhood that just seems like its Route 1.

Pretty much in agreeance, but I think it'll be just fine on name alone. Pretty much everything you listed though, specially god damn notifications and working in the background, needs to be added. How some shovelware from 3rd world countries know to bake this shit in but not Nintendo and Niantic is beyond me. I'm hoping the success makes them open their eyes and either support it very well, or work on a more well rounded actual game to launch that takes all the premise of Go and turns it into a real winner.

As nostalgia-gasmy as Go is, it's hard to overlook so many glaring issues when you're miles from pokestops and gyms and left to just check it every once in awhile for pokemon or going on long walks that will very likely result in little. View would prolly be totally different if I wasn't in danger of running out of balls without detouring a good 30 minutes on my way home from work then devoting a good 20-30 minutes stocking up. Or if I could experience the crazy lure groups that seem to be happening around more easily.

99% of me believes that it isn't that they don't know how, but that it is an intended design feature to make you buy the stupid wrist strap.

At this point i'd pay the same amount to $5 more for a smartwatch app version of the damn wrist strap. But I do agree, not running in background is definitely by design. They just need to improve the battery drainage on the app to make it more worth keeping open.

One of the worst parts is that there's not shit to do from home... It's fucking useless when I'm at home eating dinner or doing stuff with family. Gym range is so fucking minimal and they need to add more interaction or maybe fighting wild pokemon... or something. I'll give it a few weeks and see how it does but they need to patch it and patch it fast. Not everyone can walk around in the middle of the night or are literally living on top of 2-3 pokestops.

I uninstalled it for the time being, but I'll check back in a few months down the line assuming they start adding in features.

I just don't see it solving the fundamental problems with the game, though. It feels like the game is actually incapable of still running while the screen is off or it's in the background, and a Bluetooth device won't fix that.

Maybe the watch will have a pedometer built in so you at least get egg credit while moving, because their current system seems fucked. Just did a 3 mile walk and only got ~2.5km credit. If I put it in my pocket, the screen goes off, if I hold it in my hand, I don't get pedometer credit. I have to walk with my hand in my pocket while constantly tapping the screen like some sociopathic fuck trying to jack off in public.

Meanwhile, it's not even available on many (current-gen) phones because it simply doesn't work on intel chips. Which is stupid and easily fixable for any company worth its salt. These guys have pasted Pokemon onto a game that already existed - which is more or less fine - but they clearly do not know how to support the Pokemon brand name. Nintendo really needs to get in there and start getting their hands dirty and getting some upgrades and infrastructure going on this. It's already hugely popular, as bare bones as it is, but it could be taken to an even more amazing level with proper handling.

I don't mind if they wanna sell a watch or whatever, though. They should be making their money on this, and people will absolutely pay. But it's just gonna be such a disgustingly disappointing wasted opportunity if the game doesn't make some improvements quickly.

What? Just turn on battery saver mode, it'll dim the screen to near off when it detects it's in a pocket or down. Then just set your phone to never turn off, or turn off after 5-10min, and you're set. You don't go that long with out checking for pokemon any ways.

I just figured out how to fight. The blue move is a special move that you save energy for during a fight. You spam taps which is your first move, which saves up energy for your second move when fully charged. The time it takes to charge depends on the blocks for the special it seems.

This. My entire neighborhood within a 3~5 mile radius is completely devoid of any gym at all and maybe one or two pokestops at nearby churches. There's a police department and fire department nearby that don't even have shit which is weird. I have to wait until I go to work in DC to do anything meaningful.

How the oscillating circle works is basically a "Pick your own difficulty" basketball. You pick the size of the circle when throwing a pokeball and the goal is to land your pokeball inside said circle. Just within the large circle is Nice, and the smaller the circle if you land your pokeball inside of it will get you Great/Excellent

Yeah, fuck that. A competent app would do that automatically, kindle and netflix do it fine. I'm not setting my screen to not turn off for everything else for one shoddily made game.
