Pokemon Go (Mobile July 2016)

Welp, went to a park tonight that had a materials yard right next to it and around 11:30pm Valor (I assume) started a giant fucking fire there and were worshipping it (at least that's what it looked like, we zoomed the fuck out of there before the cops could crack down on the park, which they did). And the ~330CP charmander that popped there ran away too D:

Should of taken some pics. Googled 'pokemon go players set fire' to see if I could find a report, lots of other crazy things popped up including this article of a hell of a misunderstanding.

A Florida homeowner opened fire on two teenagers who were playing “Pokemon Go” outside his house after mistaking them for burglars.

The unidentified 37-year-old told police he spotted the duo, aged 16 and 19, sitting inside a white car that was parked near his Palm Coast home at 1:30 a.m. on Saturday.

He’d been woken by a loud noise and went outside, armed with a handgun, to investigate, according to a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office statement.

As he approached the vehicle, he told deputies that he heard one of the teenagers say, “Did you get anything?” ― which was actually in reference to the virtual reality monsters that players catch in the game. But, thinking the two were up to no good, he stepped in front of the car and ordered them not to move.

When the driver accelerated the car toward him, he jumped out of the way and “discharged his handgun several times at the vehicle,” per the sheriff’s office statement.

The teens sped off and the homeowner called deputies, who arrived to interview him. A search for the vehicle proved fruitless, until 10:30 a.m., when the 19-year-old’s mother called police after noticing the vehicle had bullet holes in the hubcap, fender and rear tire.

“Since they were not injured and there was no (apparent) damage to the vehicle, they thought it was someone trying to scare them and this is why they did not contact law enforcement or tell their parents,” the sheriff’s office statement added.

Deputies are still investigating the incident, and offered a series of safety tips for people playing the augmented reality game that has swept across the world in the last week. They included using common sense and being alert at all times, and not trespassing or playing the game while driving, biking or skateboarding.

Curious how it'd play out. What if he had hit one of the kids? Did he have probable cause to do anything he did? Even though it was suspicious to him, it sounds like they were parked on a public street and not being a nuisance to anyone. He heard a noise that made him suspicious, overheard something that made him jump to the conclusion of burglary, then took the care driving off as an attack and retaliated. Not hard to see the jumps in logic, but can't really pin the blame on anyone but him.

My coworker almost pulled a gun on 3 males playing this on his doorstep. He usually doesn't get any solicitors on his condo's door step so he was very leery of 3 guys unable to see what was going on (they had their backs to the door). Thought it was a drug deal or they were planning to rob him. Threatened to call the cops for trespassing if he saw them again.

Two guys that pulled over to try to catch a Pokemon rather than drive while doing it having a gun pulled on them? Seems like they need to remind gun owners the proper use of a firearm rather than blaming the people playing Pokemon Go.

If he was close enough to hear them say "hey, did you get anything", hes probably only a few feet from the bumper of the car. Thats asking for a busted knee or a broken shin.

That's fair, but how would you react if some guy came up to your window pointing a gun at you telling you not to move? I'd think he was trying to carjack me or something. The thought of trying to speed off would definitely come to mind.

Maybe it's a Kentucky thing, but I recall it being a "stand your ground" state. There's definitely been reports in the area over the years of shootings over robbery and trespassing where the shooter was cleared, unarmed or otherwise. Prolly just something that's vastly different state to state. Too lazy to look up what Florida's stance is.

I've been having issues all day. Saw a very high CP Squirtle in my parking lot, went to catch it, game froze on the Pokeball screen, managed to log in an hour later and I didn't catch it. Still can't seem to load a Stop or catch pokemon without being kicked off the game today
