I could use a charmander nest, I've seen bulbasaur, ivysaur, squirtle, and wartortle all within a block of my apartment. Haven't seen a charmander from here to work, which is 25 miles away.

If anyone wants to go on a Summer vacation anywhere and play some Pokemon Go, consider South Padre Island, TX.

There's a complex called Saida Towers there (can rent a condo there too btw), and it is a confirmed Magnemite AND Voltorb nest. Also, take a walk all along the beach and you'll come across a lot of Seel, Psyduck, Magikarp, Shellder, and Krabby.

Since exact IV values can only be calculated based on your Pokemon's exact level, you need to input its exact level. The problem is, there is no way to attain your Pokemon's exact level because it's hidden in the game. The CP bar and stardust/candy requirements to level it up give you an IDEA of what your pokemon's level is, but it's still going to fall within a range of 2.5 levels or something like that, and all you can do is estimate it. This is why the IV calculator you're using gives a range of IVs it could possibly have and can only be pinpointed after several level-ups. Silphroad's calculator attempts to use your trainer level and your estimate of where the pokemon is on the CP bar to pinpoint right away, but unfortunately you can still be wrong about its exact level. So really, neither of the calculators are 100% absolutely accurate. The only way to be absolutely accurate right now (as far as I know) is to actually download the data on your pokemon from the servers.

Oh man, I would love for even a shit gyarados to spawn near me. I spent Friday and Saturday night in Santa Cruz catching a ton of magikarp, but I still have a long way to go

If you combine Silph road with pokeassistant.com you get a very accurate idea of what you have.

Pokeassistant.com gives you a list of potential IV's but it can be a huge range since if doesn't know its exact level either. But if you start powering up and refining the stats eventually it will narrow down and find the exact level. You can see that your pokemon will be at the highest CP for the amount of stardust needed, and then see it level up to the next stardust level.

Use both calculators. Narrow that shit down.

What cut-offs are most people using with IVs when determining trash or keeper Pokemon? Just ran 6 blocks and got a 60-70%ish Lapras - which I assume will be good regardless, but for the more common ones, 85%+? Perfect or bust?

They often spawn in pairs at the Museum of Science, but I'm not sure how often. Also sometimes see pairs in a Malden park, if you're in Malden by some coincidence.

Even for rare ones, 85%+ or bust. Candy is just too precious to waste on anything lower, and if candy isn't precious for that species than the dust needed to raise them is.

I have a 399 bulba that's only 56%. As tempted as I am, I won't evolve him until I find one that's higher. All that said, check the final stats for your pokemon (the website should show you), my 85% slowbro will only be like 200cp short of max, and like 5 Def short. Atk is the same, so sometimes you can get lucky like that depending on the species.

Most places I see on the internet say keep anything above 80%

I lucked out with my 97% vaporeon.

I keep anything above 80% for the moment, because I don't have a solid team for taking gyms yet. Once I do, then I'll start with the 95% cutoff and quest to get as perfect as possible. For now, 80% or higher will suffice for me.

For some reason nearly every Eevee I've found so far has been 80%+, but when I evolve them they all become Flareon, fml.
