    Webcomics General

So there isn't much on this topic besides the Homestuck thread, which died due to production pauses. And there's far more out there than just Homestuck. The long runners from back in the XI launch days are now pmuch institutions. The new strips then are now long runners, and there's always more new stuff now.

But of course, there's as usual, there is another motive to starting up this thread than just talking about any old webcomics. No, there's a specific one I want to be on about. You might have noticed it in my sigatar the past year.

    http://killsixbilliondemons.com/

An input adventure comic that got it's start as a thread down in the MSPA forums, it rebooted into something utterly epic and awesome.

    Spoiler: show

If you know and like Planescape, and especially Exalted, you'll probably love this. If you are an Elder Scrolls deep lore nut, you might recognize some things. If you want some mad fantasy action with a hindu tinge, shit you're in luck.

So why bring it up like this now? You guessed it, crowdfunding. As many artists are doing these days, the creator just launched their Patreon, https://www.patreon.com/killsixbilliondemons?ty=h
As this one getting up there means more pages, more KSBD each month, I kinda want this. The creator has been reliable and regular with updates, amazing considering the style. So go, have a look, back it if you think it's worth it.

All that said now, what have y'all been reading?

Really the only webcomic I still read is Misfile I like the story and how the main characters have to deal with the changes that they just wake up to one day and the ripple effects it has in some places in their lives. It's definitely one of those comics you should let build up over time instead of reading every day kinda like Bleach. It flows great as a long read, but can be kinda bad when you only have one comic since they only take a second or two to read each.

Holy shit, this is still going? That's impressive. I remember reading this early on.

Order of the Stick is a must-read for anyone who has even a vague semblance of what Dungeons and Dragons is, or people looking for a fantasy story that doesn't take itself very seriously. It's a long-runner so it's great if you're looking to binge.

Spinnerette is a nice superhero parody comic (most obviously of Spider-Man), slightly more on the serious end of the scale than comedy (after a while). It has a few book-only things but they're mostly side-stories.

Awkward Zombie for random video-game related joke strips. Mostly Nintendo-related. I find it funny. Maybe some people might. Couple examples.

I dig on Customer Servicer and Whomp! a lot lately. I do have KSBD bookmarked for when I have the time to go on a binge.

I just read the first twelve pages, and this is delightful.

Edit: Ran through the whole thing. Wilde Life is pretty damn good, adding it to my list of stuff to check on.

    Yep, good find, bookmarked.

Honestly, I never knew it was a link to a comic, I just thought it was an everyday unusual sig.

If you want to see her evolution as an artist you can check out her first webcomic that is now done (was co-written with another high school friend) http://www.zapcomic.com/

It's pretty amazing watching her artistic abilities develop.

The main one I read is Unsounded : http://www.casualvillain.com/Unsounded/.

All sorts of awesome, and the author is very good about adhering to her update schedule.

    From the comic itself :

Some dead men tell tales, and some little girls have tails...
Daughter of the Lord of Thieves, Sette Frummagem is on a mission, and she'll lie, cheat, and steal to make sure it's a success (she'll lie, cheat, and steal anyway). Condemned to aid her in her rotten endeavours is a rotten corpse who seems oddly talented with the supernatural, and oddly not laying motionless in the dirt.
The road is long and no one is what they seem. Never trust a thief, and never trust anyone who won't let you look into their eyes.

That was the next one I was gonna hype, once it's back from hiatus. I used it as a sigatar before what I was using before KSBD.
The art is fantastic, I'm surprised it never went with trying to get a print through Image like Hinges did.

So next up out of my pool. Supernormal Step
    http://www.supernormalstep.com/archives/archive

Modern fantasy with a bit of superhero (Think D20 Modern's Urban Arcana setting). It's been running long enough that the artstyle has evolved to the point that when the first major arc ended, the creator redid the first chapter in the current style.
    Updates are reliable.
There is a patreon, but it being low is a little misleading. The creator actually has two, the other being tied to a pen name they draw dirty stuff under, and it's equally successful.

I used to follow 8-Bit Theater back in the day and recently I found out about Atomic Robo, and it's pretty interesting.

Until recently, I wasn't going to share this one. The strip originally started in 2001, and up to now it has produced 126 pages. In the past four years, it's only put out 11 pages.
However it recently put out four of those in the span of about a month, and the schedule may be heating up. If you're in the know, you may already know which one it is.

    I speak of Outsider. http://well-of-souls.com/outsider/

It's a space opera inspired by Master of Orion and various of your favorite space opera anime. Except Crest of the Stars. The creator didn't find out about that until a few years into making the comic. But everyone always asks.
It may also scratch the itch for Honor Harrington fans that want some xeno.
For the impatient, the strip has a forum (and a info dump section http://well-of-souls.com/outsider/insider.html) where a good bit of the world building of the series can be found (and there is a serious amount of it.)

The creator makes the comic in his spare time, but his job has always come first, thus the glacially slow update schedule. But with the recent success of Patreon* for webcomics makers, his readers were able to convince him to try it.
The current funding is modest and not quite up to goals, but very good for an obscure little comic. If you don't mind a slow burn that might speed up, but can be relied on (the creator hasn't punked out even over a decade), this one is well worth looking at.

*No, seriously. This shit is crazy, Unsounded is pulling in 1.5k a month, KSBD is at 2k, Der-shing Helmer of The Meek and Mare Internum is at 2.6k, Dresden Codak has and unbelievable 4.8k, and Jeph Jacques of Questionable Content has a HFYB of 7.6k.
This isn't even porn art. If you can write and/or draw a decent comic, it's a pretty good time to be doing it.

I'm one of those weird people that isn't an HH fan. I prefer his earlier work with Path of the Fury / In Fury Born. Moon's Serrano series I also enjoyed. I'll look into it though.

Pete Abrams announced last month that Sluggy Freelance will end next summer. I forget when I stopped reading it (sometime just after college) but now I'm catching back up to it.

Kinda sad that Maritza Campos moved on from College Roomies From Hell!!, as I really enjoyed that.
