If they really wanted to implement more interesting stats and traits to the game then doing so with the expansion was their chance. I understand that during the development of ARR trying to design such things would take up a lot of time they didn't have, so it made sense to leave it out. Unfortunately, they played it safe with HW. It's just the same boring gameplay of rotations while maximizing DPS before the next lull in combat due to some unavoidable mechanic.

I've been playing Heros of the Storm because I'm a fucking casual. I kind of regret I didn't get on that skillup bandwagon in 1.0. I mean, it gave me a lot more to do in the 2.0 era since I had to level every freaking job to 50 at least, but never want to do that again.

In other words, what we have gotten anyway since 3.0's release.

All the drawbacks, none of the benefits.

Right now we have flavor of the month stuff because of how the content is structured (e.g. high burst dps fights making things like DRK/WAR and NIN+DRG shine), but no class is ultimately banished or shunned from content.
MCH/BRD/AST/PLD have all been literally excluded from parties since 3.0 came out. Even though PF allows you to easily and simply exclude them from recruitment, you still had people saying in the PF description "NO MCH OR BRD PLZ" because they didn't even want to deal with responding to tells.

What imagined XI dystopia are we avoiding, exactly?

No one in this thread is wistfully pining for skillup-based exp, examining dozens of retainers one-by-one to hopefully find a needed item, or crafting Olive-brown Toadskin Doublet Shoulderpads. It's implied that anyone referring to "1.0" is talking about 1.23 (or less frequently, 1.18) unless specified otherwise.

I've never once seen any of those jobs excluded in PF on my server. Even back when HW was new.

AST was definitely excluded, and I was personally shunned for being a tank but only having PLD at the time when savage was being figured out.

Yeah sadly, AST and MCH were being excluded initially, then SE touched their nono spots and now everyone wants MCH at least. AST is still up in the air but as per usual, the players make things seem worse than they are - Example from XI, PUP was perfectly fine, it wasn't amazing but it wasn't shit..however people who had NO ATTACHMENTS and tried to play it purely as a mnk made it seem terrible. It needed boosts..sure, once they got them people still excluded them despite being perfectly fine..since it was 75 era still, the fact you could have the blm head time nuke with your mages on the snipe pulls were pretty awesome.

MCH no matter how good you were, was too proc based to maximize..so the potency boosts and such helped them out greatly.

Certain people love to cling onto that whenever 1.0 or 1.x gets brought up because for whatever reason, people have the OF syndrome of whenever you bring up something they dislike, they immediately assume you like or are pining for the bad, let alone ignoring it. For example, fatigue system was perfectly fine because it was a system in place due to wanting to release the game in China. However, that doesn't mean it was liked or wanted..but it DID serve its purpose. No one wants it back it or wanted it..even though yoshi brought it back in spades. The original battle system from 1.0 and later 1.2x was pretty interesting...TP/Stamina based rather than GCD that most MMOs are long moving past.

My main objection is that Yoshida took a game with amazing, revolutionary ideas (that were largely executed horribly) and decided to throw out the best parts of 1.x along with all the bad ideas that desperately needed to be replaced.

It's bizarre to type this, but I wish there was someone who actually decided to fix 1.18 and make that into a good game, instead of making a completely different game and letting you transfer your characters to it. 1.18's armoury/battle system with all the interface/QoL advances of 2.0 (and 2.0's gathering/crafting system) would have been an interesting, worthwhile game.

Of course, it would not have been WoW, so there is that.

I just had a burito from taco bell, open up wide"
Its quite an exaggeration here Cursed, I don't recall alot of SE whiteknighting happening on BG, if 0. Most people here alway complained about how bad the game was becoming overtime.

As someone pointed on the OF, the content gets irrelevant too fast compared to XI where Sky was still relevant even during the WoTG era. Things such as Haidate stayed top gears for some jobs until Abyssea came out.

Anyway there is so much wrong with this game that the list is long and anyone who would really try to make a list wouldn't know where to start.

The whole thread summed up everything I feel about the game too, I stay because Ive found some very nice friends to play with too. I also love my DRK & I am so happy to be able to play it for now, I have not looked at any other job beside MCH which I'm very bad at and WAR being at 58 but I'm running out of patience with the near 8M exp required to get to Lv58 > 60.

I am also trying to solo the old HM/EX dungeons as DRK Lv60 when I am bored just for the fun of it but even that start to be very boring because certain bosses were not designed to be soloed: Aka 1st boss of Lost City, Siren, WP HM last boss etc, making the unsync option pretty pointless there when you go solo as anything not healer.

1.0 had a way better gathering system imo, the little minigames that let you target certain things were great

I like 2.0's minigame much better, where I just target the thing I want, instead of having to use my decoder ring to figure out that Walnut Branches are 3 ticks from the top at 75% power.

Yeah, once you unraveled the layers, in most cases you could use context clues to tell you exactly what you were about to get and how to get it, so 2.0 streamlining all that crap out is great. Yeah the notch thing allowed you to weight which items you were getting, but fuck not being able to actually target specific items like we can now.

I enjoyed the process of figuring out that system, but once the mystery was gone, it was just unnecessary hoops to jump through delaying me from getting what I wanted.

Nah. There's just more to do now. Most concepts carried over..they dropped a lot of stuff (Skirmish, Hamlet Defense, actual Behest, reasons to actually go to strongholds) so I wouldn't say infinitely worse. If they moved it over to a new engine and servers..the "can't fix it due to core problems with the engine so we're doing a new game altogether" wouldn't have been as such and technically, would have been far less work than scrapping everything and dumbing things down for the new player -- they'd already have things there they could balance as they went, since I mean..there's still PLENTY of space for items to be...more than just bland but apparently the servers would keel over.

And funnily enough..most people outside of the FF community would say this is bad game design. So yeah, definitely making a good group of friends would keep you playing.

Honestly, if all they did was upgrade the game engine and the servers... 1.23 would be a better game than 3.0.

Honestly I agree. I loved the idea of the class system from 1.0 minus the sentinel part. But like you said, it was poorly executed.

The big advantage of 1.23+ till 2.0? The randomness of the fights. I'll say it again not knowing what to expect from a fight gives a different challenge

In 1.0 Garuda HM, after her Aerial Blast, you never knew what to expect, she had 3 possible moves, and you only knew what she would do depending on where she appeared (and I'm not talking about possible phase skips)

    I miss that from 1.23
