There's just a lack of actual content in the game. I expect it from a new game, but 2 years on its the same problem. There is just barely anything to do end game, and if you don't have a stable 8 man static, you end up just getting frustrated.

They had a load of extra time between 2.5 and 3.0 compared to what would have been for a potential 2.6. The expansion was 2.6 + A new city, some new area's, some new skills and the level cap being raised.

You can swap between gearsets after your queue pops. (You obviously have to be able to do that in order to change jobs.)

I'm pretty sure you can also switch between gearsets on the same job after you've accepted the duty (but before you enter the instance), so it would seem that any server-inventory-copying includes everything equipped and in the armory chest as the same thing.

The instance for things also is a huge limitation on the adventure and danger side, remember Tu'lia? it was vast and you could easily get lost if you did not know where you were going, you could die if you didn't have your /DNC, silent pot or if you were casting s/i too close to the weapons monsters, nowaday? lets not frustrate these cry babies because aint nobody have time for exploration right? Lets just make everything linear & super accessible with Aetherythes right & left.

Hell, I felt more danger in Valkurm Dunes compared to The Sea of Cloud, just because when you aggroed something it would not give you a rest until it killed you or until you ran far enough..

But you can't use items or buy/sell things.

When the commence window pops you can't:
-teleport/return (any other form of transportation you can use tho)
    -start a craft
-cast glamours, repair gear (I assume you can't meld things but can't say I've tried)
-interact with a gathering node (dunno if you can cast your line on FSH but I would assume not)
-exchange items with a retainer or take anything off/put anything on the MB, or adjust prices

Once you've changed to the appropriate job and confirmed you cannot do all of the above + you can't change gear or move items in or out of the armoury chest.

Can confirm that you can't change gear once you hit Commence. Almost had to tank CT wearing and average of iLvl 5 visible gear due to clicking it while wearing town gear. Luckily someone dropped and had a chance to swap into actual armor.

There's nothing stopping you from changing gear once you're inside.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is the sequel coming out, and yeah it looks like it won't be nearly as good as the first game, which is the one Fievel is suggesting. Xenoblade Chronicles is a masterpiece, and I can second the need to play it. It's on the Wii, which is really easy to emulate via Dolphin, so you don't really even need to pay anything. It's just a RPG with a ton to do, I wouldn't call it hardcore or anything... you could probably bumrush the main story in like 30-40hrs on your first play if you were so inclined.

As for the topic, I continue to justify my sub by comparing the cost/entertainment ratio to other activities. I pay $10 a month for FF, and I can't even go see a movie or eat out anywhere besides fast food for that. Even on months where I just cap Esos on my chars with friends and hang out with FC people at the house I get more total entertainment value than going out once. I'm honestly a lot more ok with the game looking at it like that. I quit raiding after FCoB because it is pointless and just felt like a second job that in the end I got nothing out of, and at this point I pretty much accept that this is the game and this is how it's always gonna be. If all my friends quit, I probably will too. If not, $10 is chump change and I'm fine with tossing it away for a visual chatroom with dress up for my characters.

So I guess my answer is that after all this time I've just stopped caring or expecting the game to be more than what it is... which is kind of sad, now that I think about it.

The problem is brand loyalty. Good for SE and bad for us. So few people who complain here on a regular basis have actually been able to quit cold turkey, I assume largely because of the allure of the Final Fantasy brand. Even a shitty terrible FF is better than no FF, and SE keeps making bank on that idea. They got us while we were young and now they're not comporting themselves like a responsible drug dealer should. But we keep coming back for more anyway. I feel Stockholm syndrome coming on.

I honestly haven't kept up to date on interviews for a long time now, but I recall Yoshi saying they only have one person who works on endgame raids. I also recall people saying the development team as a whole is small and is purposely kept that way. I'm not sure what reasoning they have behind that, but with the success 14 has had over the past two years, I would think they would dedicate more man power. I'm not asking for patches to occur more often with more people, but I feel like they are making a mistake by not getting more bodies to create more content so that when patches do roll out, they have more innovation and meat to them than they currently do.

Good point. If I quit this game then I would end up spending a lot more money to kill the resulting extra free time (unless I replaced this game with another MMO).

    Positive spin is occasionally valid.

I have a feeling that a good chunk of the profits FFXIV must be making now are getting funneled to fund the bloated monstrosity budget for FFXV, its the only way I can explain how they can have a successful MMO with a sub fee and a cash shop yet continue being understaffed.

I would presume the 'team' is larger if you include all the artists/animators/etc that get shuffled between projects at SE since there's no point keeping them stuck on one thing for a period of time.

They just need to jack the guys currently designing content for XI when that game is done in March, since they've done so much with so little in the past year, despite the amount of resource recycling.

We all just need to move to Korea and just play Lost Arc, because I'm sure its never coming to NA.....regardless of how much income they could be making off of it here.

Eh most those Korean games look cool but are pretty shitty at their core. Black Desert/Blade and Soul that other shitty one all the same bs.

XI's dev team is like the mom & pop eatery you go to for amazing food - XIV's is like Mcdonalds. XIV's dev team has a ton of people but they keep the "core" small, but XIV's dev team is hovering 200-300 after ARR launch which I believe dropped to at least 150. If they have only one person handling the actual content design...that explains everything. They need to get Matsui as that one person and fire whichever intern is designing XIV's content.
