OF says those mercs are in cahoots with the RMT. Taking hard-earned gil from innocent players and selling it to the PVPGold overlords.

Why does anyone care about RMT in a game where gil is virtually meaningless?
You might as well be complaining about claimbots.
All I'm mad about as far as RMT is that they get to be the middleman. I'd rather just get $2 selling a run than any amount of gil
Brought this up on a stream once. The streamer started yammering about draconian potions.
I could've full on ranted about how people are too lazy about having an income that makes consumables a non-issue. If you aren't going to bother to take advantage of the huge swell of gil-generating sources in the game then of course you're gonna feel tempted to buy gil. If you aren't penta-melding shit from scratch then I have no sympathy.
And if you aren't doing savage then you're just a dumbass.
People need HQ food and Draconian pots to clear the DPS checks in EX roulette man.
The point was that RMT aren't aren't able to do anything but buy mercs, which has an affect on NO ONE.
The post was in response to the TL;DR rant on RMT lol.
rmt, parses, bots I really don't care if people do it. To me anything that needs rmt is usually just something to do, if you don't want to do it but want the reward go for it.
If anything RMT and bots have been useful in this game. I loved it when I could buy clusters for less than 10 gil a piece, and hey if they are buying subs they are even helping fund the game.
All I ask is SE limit what they can do with exploits and trial accounts.
Between the slap on trial accounts and guildworks app RMT have been erased from my XIV experience. I do see the occasional XIV bot, but all they do is disappear and then jump into whatever DF queue they do.
XIV made a lot of adjustments to kill bots. From making gathering clusters/crystals/shards to a joke, retainers gathering for you, and crafting materia being harder to spam for (RIP Urth's Gift). While I can applaud their attempts to curtail RMT, it does have its side effects. Not debating the issue, but I'll at least applaud them for finding a way of doing that outside of not letting you trade jack shit. (See: Destiny)
They precluded all RMT interference by carefully excising a meaningful economy from the game entirely.
I wouldn't call that a good way of dealing with RMT but there you go.
Yeah people only buy gil now to fund houses, glamours, clears...
Basically the more gil you have the lazier you can be, since there's no real economy to speak of. But it still hurts the playerbase because there are a lot of people opting for the lazy road when they could be participating more. If idiots couldn't buy gil to buy clears maybe they would have to l2p, instead we get these useless festering sores littering the playerbase, which unfortunately contributes quite a bit to the image of a declining XIV with a completely retarded community full of casuals.
as a console peasant, i've gotten used to /tell and /say spam, but it's pretty naive to think they couldn't have implemented some kind of tool to either make reporting easier, or block them themselves if they really wanted to. so not so much outrage at rmt ruining the game, but disappointment in SE being generally incompetent about it.
The only reason more people don't complain about it is because we've all gotten GW to block them for months and months now and have forgotten they exist.
Mostly because it's extremely apparent that SE isn't doing to do a damn thing about them no matter how simple it is.
I'm on Balmung and the RMT have a rough time getting bots on this server it seems. The spam was so few and far between by 2.3 that I forgot how bad it was and by adding GW you could've convinced me that RMT are imaginary. Now when people mention RMT spam I have a hard time imagining what it's like.
^Seconded. Haven't had an RMT tell on Balmung in a very long time, at least since HW came out and probably even before then, and I don't use GW filters. Finally being on a shit server has benefits
Also didn't realize that the guy who was always catching Living Legends next to me while I failed to even get the trigger fish was on BG!
