One does not simply, have enough catgirls (even after 20 years)

I don't even bother capping Seals of Scips anymore. Dungeons are boring as fuck. Parsing just depresses me. Don't want to do the whole static thing anymore. Crafting is fairly pointless too. Pretty sure if not for airship upgrades I wouldn't even bother gathering shit.

My real life friends that play on this server, they are from California and I currently am living in Texas so it's just the best way for us to get together and be able to do stuff and play still. Our FC is also very good, love our house and everything about us except the name lol. I will probably continue to play until all 5 of my friends quit, but that isn't likely.

I did the MSQ on Warrior so I guess that didn't help with feeling the 'danger'. I didn't get heavy'd on Mount until I was 57. Almost believed they took out that annoying mechanic. But what I really found stupid was that I couldn't enter a new zone until I was a certain level in the MSQ, which upon entering the new area was the exact same level as 90% of the mobs running around :/ At least in ARR I got to have some fun kiting high level mobs on my bard or running from shit.

The thing that blew me away the most about locking Dravian Hinterlands was that a fucking gate was shut to keep me from going there. Not a hidden path protected by lots of dragons or anything. Just a gate that happened to open when we needed to go see Matoya.

I have been asking myself that question a lot lately.
I don't like the red scrips system. Making money just for the sake of making money isn't that interesting anymore (I would like some abjuration like solution, where you could buy abjurations with tomestones, and those could HQ stuff). Crafting and gathering, which has always been one of my favorite parts of mmorpgs is mostly irrelevant in xiv.
The dungeons are mindnumbingly boring, and everything being gated and replaced just after you got it is getting a tad old. It's just too bland in general.

None of the other mmorpgs I tried really captured my attention either though, and between work and the rest of RL, the hours of the day are fairly limited, so lack of interesting options there.

I love the airship idea, but the FC is only two people, so while we have 3 ships, I worry that the "content" coming will for all practical purposes not be something we can realistically participate in without PFing, and all the potential headaches there.

Most of the friends already quit, but there are some great guys & gals left, which is pretty much the only thing keeping me around.

I'm really sorry that a lot of you guys don't have many of your friends still online. But I'm seeing an awful lot of "I don't want to do statics" and "Playing with random people is frustrating." I understand the posts where friends stop playing and you're the only one who still logs on, that really does suck. But then again, in an mmo, I really think some people(posters here included) need to tear down some walls.

I can't speak for any of the others here, but in my case a large part of the problem is that as spare time got more scarce and very unpredictable, statics became a hard thing (because I don't want to be "the guy who has to pick up and leave with no forewarning when something goes awry", which happens a fair bit), of course, here you can argue that maybe MMORPGs aren't the right choice in gaming anymore, and you might be right here. I do run into fun people in the DF every now and then, but I'd give a fair bit for cross server friendslists and coordination options without having to do the moving thing. It leaves you with that "oh well.. it might have been.." which makes it doubly annoying.

I think the thing that really gets people from branching out their comfort zone is just the lack of times where you have to communicate with another person on your server.

DF is cross-servers, so that only really leaves PF, and that is usually left for hard content. So while that is potential time for communication, it's often overshadowed by the cynical feeling that everyone will just get frustrated and leave after the first two-three wipes.

I'm in agreement with Hiryo that people should try breaking out of their comfort zone, because that's how I met my free company that I wouldn't trade for any other at this moment. At the same time though, MMOs have changed from being a sandbox to a single-player game with momentary instances of multiplayer. With how easily people can come and go these days it's a lot harder to bond.

Good point. If they expanded on some xserver communication(PFs between data centers for DF content) and were more dynamic about when content moves from premade-only to DFable, it would definitely help put people together.

IMO ( haha, I can pretend to be an OF'er too ) it's also that there's not much that requires socializing in this game. >.> Only things so far that would "force" socialization is Alex which pretty much means statics. Otherwise, nothing else requires any form of long term interaction. Even primals are fairly short in lifespan. Best case scenario, you and 7 others grind it like 30 times for cards which let's be honest, won't really happen either and you'll probably forget about them once the party disbands.

Yup, I have a feeling many are from the FFXI era, and feel they want to have a more social.. gaming life and make friends slowly over a long period of time. Guess what though, at one point those "friends" were also complete strangers to you >.>

Have to go out and make new friends if the old one leaves and you still want to stay on FFXIV. Old static dies? get a new one, make new friends. Kind of why I made my website, so past friends can still stay in touch with me if they want to (I have a few that still visit me on my website after 15+ years )

I login to raid, check airships, and cap ESO pretty much lately. Still probably weeks from an A4S kill. No interest in capping scripts or crafting period because the grind is boring. I level maybe a class a month whenever the mood strikes me but other than that I've been playing other games outside raid. 3.1 is going to have to be a miracle patch for a lot of people.

Wish I can cancel. Previous war ditched our static (thank god) and with the usual headache that accompanies finding rep, I started going war since deeps are more easily replaceable. Was told mnk will join us and eventually will main drg. Well, turns out their drg is 50 and I'm pretty sure it'll never be their main. I'm previously mnk, still allowed to main mnk left side cause that was my only stipulation to going war, but with a new arm of alex coming in 4 months I may have to scrap it. After all, giving mnk shit first to a guy playing only war for savage is silly for progression, but I'm gonna have 2 sublots if this keeps up.

I'd have canceled 2 months ago if I didn't have a savage set. Game is boring as all hell if you play this game mainly for battle content (which I do). Cap eso > logout and get on with other things.

I am considering for the first time to become a Patch-Raider and not go for "endgame" (aka AlexS/Coil).

    What keeps me logging on:
    - Trade GC Craft items to finish my crafts to 60 (+ Ixali Quest)
    - Cap Eso as good as I can with PVP Roulette and some help Outs (Alex / Ravana for those in Need)
    - Send out ship (max Level 50 for all 4 ships) / sell Loot to max FC Chest
    - Craft some new ship parts here and there
    - Looking for an Alex Savage Group or starting to complete one with friends
    - Smalltalk with friends
    - Waiting for 3.1. PATIENTLY!

I would have not expected to be so bored of this Expansion after such a short time.

    Why for me?
Amount of grinds is too much.
Whole dungeons and raids are after few times >> again boring as fuck.
    Alex Normal is too easy.

PVP I am rank 50 - still good but queus suck so badly.
Primals capped. Going back for others over and over making it boring.

I am also tired of statics for endgame. In 2.x I had to replace over 10 people in my static. Real life buddies quit. Other people quit cause of Family, Kids, boredom, lack of skill etc. After 2.4 I was unable to complete my static again, simply because demand was high (Party finder full of people looking for statics, but not many single people actually looking for one).

PUG is possible, but risk of failure is too high.

I did prefer some good people compensate the lack of skill of others and everyone having good fun. Give the not so skilled people easier Jobs to do and the good ones to the crazy shit. Good ones on more anway, so those would get loot faster too. Aw god was that easy!

The Heavensward Areas are huge and look awesome, but what does it matter if there is no Content you could do there (except FATE and HUNT, which I don´t Need anymore either).

At the end of 2.x I was looking Forward to 3.0 to Keep me busy for a very very Long time. Considerung the size of the Expansion that they mentioned I was done too fast.
While we were crazy and it is our own fault we were done with new Job and main Story in 2.5 days (I don´t care about 100% cutscenes/story, I watch them later when I want to). Levelled a few more Jobs... yay what a joy (done that fast too).

Already 2 months later I find myself looking Forward to 3.1. Sure I could Level few more Jobs and do Eso grind weekly, but thats not what I enjoy.
Even if I find a cool Alex Savage Group now, I don´t even want to do A3S (just too less free time to Play hardcore)

I did prefer FFXI-like Content more (I know that comparing the games is something most people can´t read anymore), because I had lots of different things to do while they continued to be fun (Dynamis, Einherjar, Abyssea, Limbus, Wyverns/Kings, Sea, etc. back in the prime years).

It was so easy to have Group Content for the LS (These days being called FC) and have people join mid run or leave when they had to.

It is wrong from Mr. Yoshi to Keep mentioning over and over that the way FFXIV is, is the way most people want MMOs to be These days.

I find myself every time, when shit gets boring in this Situation:
People start talking how they miss FFXI Content/gear Progression!
People start talking about how much better stuff was/is in WoW and SE still isn´t able to do too (haven´t played WoW so no clue if they are right on what they say)

Realized over time that my main draw to MMOs is being able to raid and I've been super busy with RL stuff that I don't have the time to anymore.

I was going to just level everything to 60 and try to make money, but going through fates all over again is not appealing to me. And waiting 20 min for a dungeon queue by myself to enter and have the other dps with me do far less damage than the tank every single time wasn't fun either. Decided to just quit until I have time to raid again, but with my calendar, that's probably not happening until at least 4.0.

Hopefully they'll have fixed this shitty 4 boss tier they seem to love by then because if its still like this, then I will likely not even want to raid in 14 again period.

The problem is that content in this game leans heavily toward 8-and-only-8. So you can make lots of friends, sure. And if you have 8 in your static, those friends can't really do Anything That Matters with you.

Alex Savage gives me a newfound appreciation for Dynamis. Sure, you "needed" 25+ people to do it, but if you had 30 in your LS and 3 can't make it, your progression didn't get shot to hell. My group has done Alex Savage twice a week since it came out and we still have yet to have the same 8 people for two runs in a row; teaching a new pickup person the mechanics of a fight twice a week for 2 months is not fun.
