Reading the fine print, it looks like there may be a cap to how many of each pass gets sold.

Who knows how relevant that will be, or if they will ignore it, but interesting they snuck that bit on.

It p much says they can stop selling keys or halt renewals at any time. I wouldn't doubt that was on the original AP fine print since that's pretty much what happened when the parks shut down last year. Just some "Cover Your Ass" legal text.

Exactly this , come on we work in government jobs CYA is the name of the game lol.

That wording has been there since all time , since typically they stopped selling SoCal one or halted renewals based on the sheer volume of those. It also covers them if they decode to change the program tiers eliminate some.

Was more pointing out that they made it a bit more obvious this time. In the old passes, you had to do some fine print digging to find it. I still wouldn't be shocked if they do a cap on the different AP's though just to make more money off the normal ticket admissions.

They could easily do this by caping how many reservations are available on specific days for key holders. For instance, around Christmas Time they can cap total reservations at 80k and only allow 20k to be made by key holders. Also legit question…is KeyHoles the new equivalent wording for PassHoles?

So the key holders will have a separate " bank" of reservations to pull from ,the same way WDW does it. And often even there same day reservations are available though they do have 4 parks to choose from.

And yes keyholes is the new slang lol.
I read way too many disney forums, blogs and Instagram feeds. But planning to get my key on launch day and possibly fly down that night for a day just because I can. Also kind of going to start up my own video tours and blogs since I've been doing so much disney solo travel.

Disney is rebranding the FastPass/Plus/Maxpass to Disney Genie service that is built in to the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps.

Sounds like incorrect branding. Should be called the Scrooge McDuck Pass.

Genie+ sounds like some money grab bullshit. So free fast passes are gone, then you have to pay $15 per person per day to get ONE fastpass at a time, and it doesn’t even include the top attractions...if you want THAT, you have to pay even more extra for “lightning lane” which you will be limited to two per day and no price point has been announced yet for that service. Holy shit.

Like how are first time visitors, without any help or planning, supposed to figure this out? They’ll just show up to stand in standby lines for an hour plus and go home telling everyone how much disney world sucks.

The fucked up thing is that a family of 5 at WDW would have to pay $75/day for the entire family. $300 for a 4 day trip. Absolute money grab.

Ok but this is exactly how it goes for people majority of the time lol. I swear we just forget about how much theme parks suck ass because the few moments they're actually fun, are actually really fun, and we remember those moments and not the 120min wait to get there.

Well Disney for the longest time had their fastpass system be free.

Disneyland had the optional max pass that let you get your fast pass in the app, and included all your photos for ten a day, so, it wasn't that bad, and you could still do the fast pass the old fashioned way by scanning your ticket.

WDW, you had to plan your fast passes out early, and one of the huge perks of staying on site was getting to book out 60 days in advance, versus 30 for non onsite guests, so they also killed a major perk there at the same time.

So thing is about the free fast pass system ending is Disney was the last holdout for such a thing. Every other major theme park has had a paid version "express pass" system for years, so the fact that they waited this long is a miracle in itself.

As far as cost , it's so early and not enough concrete details listed to make accurate understanding of it. I've been cross referencing information from multiple blogs and websites and they are about as confused on it too. So this will be a wait and see thing.

As far as first timers go : Having travel to WDW so much in the last year I can say that people even now are still clueless. Asking about things that are literally plastered all over the official website, on signs , on physical maps , on the app , etc. but really comes down to failure to look up anything in advance. If I had a dollar for everytime someone asked where fastpass machines are in WDW in the last year or through the 20ish online forums and Facebook groups I'm on, I'd be a DVC owner for life.
Actually planning to start a adult/solo traveler focused Disney blog because I have so many people constantly coming to me about it all.

Now Disneyland still has the trump card on being able to be more flexible because of how close the parks are and still caters more to "locals" vs a worldwide tourist destination as they call it. The fact that pre pandemic you still had to book 3 fastpasses in advance at WDW , it's not that much different. Nothing is ever "free" , just feels that way because you aren't paying for it outright. Same with magical express , you're paying for it in your hotel room cost or DVC dues , etc.

As Rumplestilkin says.."All Magic comes with a price." Now the real interesting part will be what cost are people willing to pay and keep paying while complaining about it.

If Genie+ works like the old Max Pass where even though it says one pass at a time but had the old restrictions (you can stack them under certain conditions) then it might be ok. The fact that they decoupled it from the AP/Keys is what really sucks because Signature+ got that rolled into the pass which was one of the reasons why I got that pass. However gating certain rides behind a paywall for the Lightning Lane is what is angering a lot of people. At this point they might as well just go back to tickets for the rides like back in the day. Disney isn't hurting for money so this is another Chapek money grab. It really is turning into a "Pay for a better experience" kind of park. When World of Color comes back, since there are no longer FastPasses that is going to be an upcharge for the better viewing areas.

Also I just read that Josh D’Amaro said that if you didn't get a reservation for Rise of the Resistance, you will be able to buy your way onto the ride via a la cart pricing through the Genie app...

Picked up my Dream Key today. This will probably be the last year I do an annual pass for Disneyland as it really feels like it's no longer worth the value especially with the current/future state of access to rides.

Astylla picked up hers today while at the park. Not activated though yet as she had a 3 day California ticket.

We ended up not getting one. In the past the military ticket was just $1 cheaper than the regular tickets but had no expiration and no blockout.

This year it’s $260 for 4 days and no blackouts/expiration.

Caveat is we are not military but the people we go to Disney with 90% of the time are and they are allowed to buy 6 each. So we are going to purchase through them and go when they go.

I couldn’t resist how much better a value that is for us.

Edit: Correction there are blockout dates in December and April.
