Magic Keys are up for purchase for everyone now and not just renewals at Disneyland. Looks like this is a move to increase cash flow since their last quarterly report did not meet or exceed Wall Street's expectations. They are also doing a hiring freeze and a round of job cuts are incoming.

This doesn't surprise me. I have a feeling that the quantity from a majority of the keys came from those who didn't renew.

Brother said that there were issues with purchasing in regards to trying to select the monthly payment option (it wouldn't let you and kept trying to take the lump sum.) Imagine trying to get your whole family a key and being paranoid about accidentally being down $5000+ immediately.

Literally saw this flood my feed as I got home.
I didn't see this coming but the collective joy from my Disney groups is insane right now.

Not that I was a fan of Chapek but curious what will come of many things now that Iger is back. I'm not personally looking or expecting any immediate changes many are wishing for ( reservations to go away , immediate return of fast pass , more entertainment coming back, etc.) but given the challenges ahead will be interesting to see.

Just saw the news. I actually shouted when I read it. Chapek was a terrible CEO and didn't really understand the guest experience at the parks. I don't expect immediate change, but we will probably start to see a shift in a different direction. As far as Chapek stepping down, I am more than certain it was forced.

Oh thank god, Chapek was the worst.

I don’t expect Iger to reverse most, or really many of Chapek’s plans, but I do trust in him to stop making bad decisions going forward.

It’s kind of funny that when Chapek was announced as CEO, some people speculated that it was a move to make him the fall guy because the company knew they were going to enter a dark period with Covid and shutdowns. While it sort of still feels that way, Chapek made one bad decision after another while making some pretty terrible comments about annual pass holders and saying things like adults don’t like animation.

People are calling for the same on
Josh d' Amaro but honestly he was one of the nicest people I've ever met and always willing to talk to guests at Disneyland.
Granted his role shifted earlier this year and some things have rolled downhill but hoping this is a breath of fresh air for even a little bit before everyone spams again " The magic is gone."

At Disneyland they do and why I found the online hate very odd. Apparently they are lumping him in with Chapek because they feel he had the ability to influence against poor descions that were less guest focused and money driven that Chapek was touting.

I have met Josh and numerous times seen him interact with guests and never would I put them in the same boat.

Disney fanatics are a special bunch and why I do self proclaim as such, I have unpopular opinions such as the dining plan doesn't really save money aside from certain circumstances, and Disney is a business and a luxury not a need. Literally have been ousted out of groups for not going along with the current narrative.

I was reading about some of the mistakes that Chapek made, and it turns out that both Kareem and Josh's promotion came from Chapek and was viewed as Chapek promoting friends/people in his inner circle. Because of this, I believe that Josh didn't speak up about a lot of things that Chapek proposed for the park due to their friendship. So he had a bunch of yes men/women underneath him, however I read a few articles that claimed after the Q4 results were in and higher ups started to voice their opinion, his inner circle started to turn on him and they began voicing their opinions after they realized they had more people to back them up. It really sounds like some GoT shit went down because they basically asked Iger to come back on Friday and then emailed Chapek letting him go and told him their lawyers will contact his.

Edit: Aaaaaaand Kareem is gone. Iger just fired him. He disliked Kareem Daniel's promotion to the head of Disney's Media and Entertainment Distribution because he wasn't the right fit (he has a financial and engineering background). This was one of Chapeks buddies getting promoted and wasn't qualified for the position.
