Jones is still only 21 too. Immediate results wise it'll seem like Nashville won the trade, but long-term I'd tip my cap in Lumbus' favour.

Yeah Jones is only 21 and has 3 years under his belt. Most defensemen really dont hit their stride till they are in their mid 20s. Lumbus really need a defenseman that can be a number 1. Honestly in this deal both teams got exactly what they needed.
What's funny is the past week there were rumblings of Nuge to Nashville for Jones, but I was like "No way the Perds do a 1 for 1 deal like that."
So now that we know their weakness.... inc Kassian flipped for Weber. Make it happen, PC!
Well there's that, and the fact that there's a good 50+ other D who are also better than him
Edit: I have nothing against Jones, he very well may turn out to be a true #1D too, but to me this trade banks on him becoming a #1 which is why I don't see it as a good trade. Jones has plenty of NHL experience, and he hasn't lived up to any of his hype like you could say Ekblad has. Jones has A LOT to prove to make this a good trade.
I GO TO OHIO FOR ONE FUCKING DAY AND MISS ALL THE TRADES.
I mentioned the Richards to Caps thing sometime in the last week, they were already talking and with Beagle getting injured it just escalated the insterest. No Risk, High Reward. Worst case is we toss him on waivers/the AHL and fill in our #3C until Beagle is back. Cup winning experience, and someone who will want to spend the next several months proving himself to the NHL.
Johansen had a BIG falling out with Tortarella and wanted out from what I heard, especially after getting benched. There was a mention of Johansen/Drouin deal but Perds beat everyone to it I guess. Seems like a good trade to me, CBJ needs defense and the Perds desperately need better offensive forward talents. Johansen+Forsberg should be pretty nice for them, for now AND years to come(he still has RFA status at the end of his contract). Jones should continue to develop and become a top pairing two way dman.
funny side note, Ovechkin's first NHL fight was with Mike Richards, while he was a Flyer.
YAAAAASSSSSS!!!
I just got out of six hours of meetings to go back to my desk and see like 15 texts with some variation of "holy ****!" / "omg a #1C" / etc. Immediately check HFB and lost my gourd. Way to go Poile; even the haters have to give him some kudos here.
If you take the long view, I think this trade will be more even than most are allowing, but right now, this is exactly what we needed. I don't think most people realize that NSH has NEVER had a #1C in the franchise's history. You have no idea how big of a hole it has been for us. Twilight years / injured Foppa does not count back in the mid-2000s.
A Johansen+Forsberg duo is gonna be mighty scary.
Those were some nice saves by Fleury during the 2nd period.. damn it.
That's just a guess on your behalf at best. Lest not forget CLB still has Ryan Murray, their former #2 overall pick whom they're grooming. I don't see them putting him on the back burner just to groom Seth, who already has more NHL experience, and I don't see them pairing the 2 together(least not yet anyways). So Seth still remains a 3/4 D on CLB.
Again, this isn't anything against Jones, this is just that Johansen is a #1 C, and you've traded a #1 C, which is a very hot commodity in the NHL for a 3/4 D, in the hopes that he becomes a 1/2 D. I just feel CLB could have gotten a lot more than Jones is all.
Ohhhh, the Calgary Flames beg to differ. Not in Iginla's entire time with the team did we have a #1 center (This goes all the way back to 1996 when we got him for Joe Nieuwendyk... who was a #1C). Olli Jokinen was the closest we got. And even when we went to the cup finals, the guy beside Iggy was Craig Conroy. Hell, even now you can argue that we don't have a #1 guy, as Monahan and Bennett still have a ways to go development wise.
Fleury has made some insane saves for the past 5 periods (and most of an OT) between last night and tonight. Super solid.
The fact Nashville has been around for such a short time that they've never had a legit #1 centreman is kind of crazy when you think about it.
eh, I'd argue Jones is immediately a top pairing D for CBJ. As was said, he was only a 2nd pair D in NSH because Weber/Josi is one of the best D pairings in the entire league. I also don't really see why Murray/Jones couldn't pair. They may have been able to get more from someone but trying for more, while the situation with Johansen gets worse/more public(couldn't get him to sign in the summer, settled on short deal, he has lost ice time this year, especially under Torts and even benched recently). Picking up a sure top 4, potential Elite Dman right now, seems like a good idea to me. CBJ's dmen are pretty weak, there is plenty of ice time for Jones and Murray to figure shit out.
Jones is a right handed shot and Murphy is a left handed shot so im sure that played into the trade that these 2 could become one of the best pairs in the NHL. Both are still young. Honestly both players are very good players that just needed a new team to play for.
