Jones was actually 3rd pairing in NSH with Jackman; Ellis and Ekholm were the 2nd pairing. Regardless, NSH has an embarrassment of riches at D and Jones has played a substantial amount of games on the top pairing with Weber when Josi went down last year; I think he'll be fine overall, and will likely move around CBJ's 1st / 2nd pairings as they figure things out.

Plus, even if they don't figure it out this season, gives Lumbus more chance to land Matthews to replace Johansen in the off-season anyway

Really the only reason why Jones ended up in Nashville was he pretty much fell in their lap. He was suppose to be 1st over all pick but teams passed on him and Nashville took him since they figured there was no way they were going to get it at #4 i think it was.

Panarin is just unreal. This dude is awesome. I really hope he's not a one year wonder and keeps progressing. I wonder how Teravainen feels because this guy is quickly becoming a crowd favorite and it's definitely taking the rookie or newbie spotlight of Teravainen who was going through a pretty bad regression.

Also I feel so bad for Bickell. The dude just can't make himself useful to this team anymore. Dude has done nothing. Literally nothing since coming back up from the AHL.

Yep. All of our fans were really amped about Barkov at #4 and if you go back to pundit commentary from that draft year, EVERYONE thought it was going to be:

#1 Jones
#2 MacK
#3 Drouin
#4 Barkov

COL won the lottery and surprised with MacK, then FLA and TB took Barkov and Drouin respectively to leave NSH with another freaking defenseman. Poile was ecstatic and Jones is a great player, but god it was like fate was conspiring to prevent us from ever having a real center.

I would argue that Nashville has cumulatively had the worst centermen of any NHL team in aggregate over the past 18 years. Frankly, Arnott for a very brief period may have been the closest thing we've had to a #1.

Habs had Desharnais as #1C for the past 3 years

We've tried him everywhere; at the end of the day it was largely a chemistry and handedness issue. Ellis and Ekholm just meshed really well together and there was nowhere else for Jones to go (obviously not touching Webs / Josi). I just hope Torts doesn't ruin him.

Seems like I missed a lot watching Making a Murderer last night. That Johansen for Jones trade is kinda bonkers but makes sense for the teams individually. Also I give zero fucks about Mike Richards but I wonder if Justin Williams had something to do with it.

E: hurpdurp the first thing I read is LeBrun saying Williams did weigh in on it. Well bully for them I guess.
