The shitty thing is then you have Bettman try to push mayor Nenshi around like "New arena guys.... make it or we'll do stuff. 3 hrs north is getting a new place. Your turn, or else..." etc threats when ultimately our owner built this one without really having to spend any of his own cash. Calgary isn't gonna get that same kinda deal anytime soon

The nice thing is Nenshi isn't backing down at all. The Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corp (CSEC) owns the Flames, Stampeders, Hitmen, Roughnecks and even the AHL and ECHL farm teams for the Flames. The owners (about 6 of them) of the Corporation are all billionaires and everyone in Calgary knows it. Add in the economic downturn at the moment and there's no way people will be giving public free money to build a sports facility.

I just don't find women's hockey interesting beyond the Olympics. The appetite could be different in Canada, but to me its just like the World Cup (soccer). I can watch a few games every four years and appreciate the finesse of that type of game, but its just too passive and doesn't have the intensity men's hockey brings and I'm getting real sick of the super politically correct crowd like Puck Daddy trying to force it on me and similar minded peers just cause it's women. I don't care about NCAA hockey, I don't care about women's hockey, and I don't care about MLS/Euro soccer. They all bore me and the fact that one of the 3 is played by women shouldn't give them a pass in the face of mundane ratings and limited interest.

I've seen the Furies play twice, it was a good time both times. If you have a local team I'd recommend at least going to see a game before you write them off. The only reason I saw them the first time is because they played the same day the Marlies were and I already had tickets to the Marlies game.
