Kid apparently kept telling Nashville he was signing but rumours of him going FA have been around for a year. How does Poile let it get this far? Everyone looks bad in this. Kid better deliver if he does go FA, sign a short term contract so he doesnt end up like justin schultz

He's got an assload of connections to Toronto doesn't he? Including his father working for the organization in some capacity that I don't remember. And given their rebuild status and prime opportunity for a kid to make the lineup, seems like the most obvious destination for him

Thing is, Nashville was promising the kid first line slot and a place on the power play. He wasn't going to go in there and be a 4th liner they had real plans for him and even said he was the main reason they didnt make a move at the trade deadline. Toronto connection is definitely there, dad works for the team and they drafted his brother. It's also been rumoured he would like to play for Boston so we'll see. Either way its a bad spot for Nashville.

I don't buy Poile's excuse for one second though. You made no moves at the deadline, because you were counting on a college kid to come in with two weeks left and make an impact on your top line in the playoffs? Give me a break. No one (aside from maybe Dave Nonis) could possibly be that short-sighted. The free agency rumour has been flying around since the season started, and while I'm sure that the Predators will file a formal Tampering charge if he signs with the Leafs just to see what happens, if Vesey walks for nothing Poile has no one to blame but himself. Vesey isn't even the first player to do this to the Preds.

The belief is that given the choice between Toronto and the rest of the field, he'd take Toronto. We'll have to see though. Getting Vesey and Zaitsev both would be pretty huge for us though.
