    Dead game.

    Ok so two questions...Would anyone ever want to play ffxi again around CoP or ToAU time? And also what issues exist in the game would you like to see changed? I'm thinking about starting up a private server and thought some of you guys might be interested. It may be a shit game, but with some tweeks and nostalgia glasses I think it'd be fun to play again.

    As far as game changes here's some ideas I've come up with:
    -notorious monsters timers reduced
    -lottery spawn monsters spawn rate increases as you kill the place holders
    -Improved drops on the more incredibly rare drops
    -multiplied exp rates
    -add a refer a friend system that improves exp rates
    -add a summoning command for people in the same party but requires another person to use the command to work.
    -combat skills automatically capped on level
    -all items stack to 99 instead of 12.
    -crafting always grants a skill up
    -no crafting lost items

    Theres quite a few private servers set at ToAU/CoP. If there was a healthy population, like a few thousand people playing I would play it in a heart beat. But they only have like 70-80 people and I don't have the drive to level up to 75 on that small of a server, especially since its run by like one person, they can just decide they're tired of running a private server and shut it down.

    I wish SE would read my mind and make my dream of having an official brand new FFXI server that is set at the ToAU golden days. Never gonna happen though.

    tbh i get my social-aspect-of-MMO fix from XIV and then just spend most of my time playing other games. xcom is a current favorite, but civ and KSP are frequent contenders.


    i just dont have the heart to really sit and grind out shit like i used to. especially in a setting where my progress is dependent on people i don't know.

    SE might actually go after private servers legally if there was that mny people playing them pipe dreams and all...

    I haven't seen a private server that has the mix of old school content and bullshit sped up to not have to play 20 hours a day to level/gear up. I installed it on my computer and started looking at whats done. As far as I can tell, mobs are where they should be and with the exception of pathing they are work pretty well. Missions for base/zilart/cop work pretty well, but some custom mob action is incomplete. Limbus/Dynamis has a solid base and a couple of mistakes here and there in limbus. Kings/NM are largely working. The biggest problem on the list is that aspidochelone doesn't go in his shell. I'm going to start adding my custom ideas for things over the weekend and we'll see where we go from there

    One thing I recall being wonky was that worms can move where they like. They aren't stuck to where they come out of the ground like they should be. That was really the only thing that made it obvious it was a private server.

    I tried out Nasomi too but that one is trying to be as true to the real game at ToAU time as possible I believe.

    Although it might be fun to mess around on a server that I can get jobs to 75 quickly that I never got to really play with in retail.

    I am hoping SE follows sony and do a progression server ala Everquest someday.

    But even though I'd play it, reality is I have two little kids and a job that sucks my life away. I want that party camping experience again, but don't have the time anymore.

    If you do something like this, I'd say look into somehow adding the trust npcs.

    Hubby and I went back to ffxi two weeks ago and made new characters to go through all the story lines and see how it all wraps up. Kinda was able to get that party feel by going to dunes with the trust npcs. No conversation, obviously, but getting to fight VT-IT lizards and crabs n' junk.

    Only downside is you level soooooooooooooo fast now, it only took us like an hour to get from 10-20.

    also remove all the MPK fixes , sort people into three 18 man linkshells, ???, pro fits
