Watch over egg 100ish times over the first few days (doesn't need to be in one sitting, just total to max out affection). Feed chick carrot paste only, do care plans for discernment up to a bit decisive I think it's called, get stories if you want. (STR/END+ ones). Once a teen, feed it vomp carrots. Once it learns stories, focus on STR/END plans. Do this even as an adult and then once past...day 64? I think? Basic care till retirement.

NEVER run the bird totally out of endurance each day. Leave a little left. Chocolixirs for game genie speeding up everything, can use 2 a day I believe.

Hm really? That conflicts with the guide that was on ffxiah. Don't run the bird out of endurance each day, why is that? Also why carrot paste instead of just doing vomp carrots from the start?

Guides I've read said running the bird dry can make it sick. This was coming from some Chocobo guy who was pretty hardcore into the stuff, but take it as you will. I think it was all just random bullshit and being sick just is RNG at work. Carrot paste raises DIS/REC or whatever it's called with NO loss to STR/END, where as Vomp WILL lower the others. You want Carrot Paste because it's cheaper and doesn't lower affection (I believe it raises it) where as the carrots do. If you plan on getting stories, which requires DIS to be at...A bit deficient or higher to learn (Lv 3), you don't want to start with Vomp. There's a screenshot on the wiki of a guy using carrot paste (Search Carrot Paste and check discussion) and getting Lv 2 Discernment as a baby still, which is a huge start. Zegham carrots will raise DIS/REC also but lowers STR/END and affection. I believe the guides said to forego carrot paste once the bird is in its teens, (It does...something or isn't as good as carrots. Basically care plan+feed is important) so switch to carrots then. If you don't care about stories, carrot paste still cause it's easier+keeps affection high, then Vomp as soon as it's a teen.

Also, Chocobos can learn stories while horribly sick, this was mine years ago:

Guess that confirms being poor on all stats during adolesence is severely lagging behind. All I can get a hold of are Sharug/Azouph Greens and I don't have a mule. Even if I were to make one, I'd be restricted to only 1 item per harvest for 90 days due to their old ways of combating gilsellers. Any suggestions on what can be my savior?

Mog gardens with wildgrass greens you get a lot of chocobo related items like vomp carrot.

Find someone who can race and get chocobucks, then exchange chocobucks for Vomp Carrots. 10 bucks=12 carrots, then it's 2 carrots for a synth of carrot paste (yield is 2 on NQ but Lv 31 Cooking, so easy T3). Otherwise, gardening. I believe it's 6 days per harvest for Vomp.

But isn't it bad to feed paste on adolescence and adulthood? This is my first time raising a Chocobo and I did it via the ISNM egg. From my understanding, you needed to have raised a Chocobo before which lets you become a VCS member, and that finally lets you raise a chocobo with good parent cards and plans. Wiki has been pretty vague about the whole process.

My guess to fix my situation would be to just grind away chocobucks on racing tokens? Camping the AH has been pretty lame in my server, but I was hoping there'd be another way. Is it possible to raise a 2nd chocobo while I have one racing away? Perhaps it will be faster to start over raising properly after grinding bucks on my 1st Chocobo?

Sucks to have to go through all this on a bust. All we need to do is get the Chocorookie title from the supposedly easy Challenger races, so I'm hoping my stats don't need to be too spectacular right?

Breeding Chocobos really only helps for chance at a color and high chance the baby has an ability from the parents. I don't believe it affects stat grow, and color does NOTHING, so don't think older FF games. Paste is bad in the sense the bird will eat it, but it doesn't give the animation that it enjoyed it like with carrots. You can have a bird racing while you raise another, yes, but it has to be retired and out of the stables for you to raise a new one. You can't have it racing and then start another. Do NOT, EVER throw away the VCS card you have or you will forever lose that Chocobo. You honestly don't need to make 1 bird for racing and then restart with a ton of tokens. Just make 1 bird with the correct plans and follow what I've said and it'll be fine, you don't need parents or whatever. Racing tokens just help with buffing the stats. You can NOT cap all 4 stats. It's something like...635? points or so total, and it requires...I think 225 or so for SS Rank or First-Class in a stat. You can do SS, A, B, C for a balanced bird but it's really best to do SS in STR/END for a racing bird, followed by DIS/REP SS if you want a digging one. Story wise, Gallop and Cater for racing, Burrow and Bore for digging. All Gallop/Cater do is raise STR/END by 1 level, and I'm not 100% if it breaks the SS cap or not.

Racing tokens just help raise the stats a bit faster, but really, if you do the correct care plans and feed the correct food, your bird will easily cap out SS x2 before it retires. Keep in mind as you race it, constantly retrade the VCS ticket to the racing NPC to update your bird as it gains stats. So unless you want to race all day every day and spam tokens, go ahead, but it's a huge waste of time and not necessary. Once your bird is SS x2 just do Basic Care plans and feed it normal gyshal greens or sandorian carrots I think so it doesn't get any stat losses (remember, Vomp lowers DIS/REP, Zegham lowers STR/END).

Stat wise, I tried my hand with my digging chocobo who is Poor in STR/END and First-Class in DIS/REP. He BARELY and I mean BARELY fucking won the 2nd race on the novice or whatever ranks. I used speed apples with various options to the jockey and it was a constantly 4-6th place. I got 3rd place and won on sheer RNG from what I saw and it was a photo finish. I'd imagine as soon as your bird is an adult, with Lv 3-5 STR/END you'll be ok.

Also for fast and easy chocobo eggs to get started, the mithra child NPC in Ru Lude Gardens SE of the AH, buy it from her. If she doesn't have it, buy 7-15 stacks of Carnations till she does (she'll talk in /say as soon as you buy enough from her. This is server wide, so amount needed to buy will vary but it's not a whole lot).

Side note: For a racing bird, raise it in Sandy. This starts the short walk on the path to meet the NPC to get one of the stories quickly. Otherwise, Bastok's is Middle distance and Windy is Far, you'll be waiting to teen/adult I believe to reach them.

    Number of killed NMs.
There are "tiers". Each successive upgrade requires a much larger number of NMs than the previous one (usually double the amount?)

    regarding this choco stuff-

i've been growing wildgrass seeds in 6 mog gardens for 2 weeks. 20hr growth time and fertilized with any crystal can yield 0-2 vomp carrot. dung was no good.

yields also include azouph/sharug/gysahl greens, zegham carrot, cupid/parasite/gregarious worms, fairweather fetish, foulweather frog.

cupid worm + vomp carrot used for cooking75 celerity salad if your choco gets sick.

vomp carrot (Wildgrass Seeds/Earth Crystal) yield from pot is higher, but garden doesn't require as much effort.
need mog house pots for tokopekko (Wildgrass Seeds/Water Crystal) and garidav (Wildgrass Seeds/Fire Crystal) wildgrass.

also found that 1/4 times i completely used up choco baby energy, it got sick.

everyone wishes; however, after neo-nyzul we're never allowed to have regain again.

    more likely it'll be haste.

I dont think anyone idles in their Karieyh Ring's for that broken Regain+5...Giving Regain+1 with a cap of +8 is hardly going to break anything.

    i've killed 25 zi'tah and 17 ru'aun pop NMs. 3 zi'tah and 7 ru'aun lottery NMs. i'm still spoils4, so it can't be based on unique NM kills.

    --

ok, i grep'd my logs and came up with 142 NM kills. i know that i am missing 20+ kills from those i found.
