I got the chocobo racing vorseal on my mule yesterday, need to get it on my main today hopefully. Seems to be able to win the races you need Strength + Endurance First-Class and maybe use an item, I've been using speed apples. I haven't actually got either Gallop or Canter but I suppose those would make it easier because some races seemed very close in the end.

Guides suggest to wait day 43+ to teach abilities. Learning before that it's possible but a pain.
Not sure if the "A bit deficient" Discernment is suggested to increase the odds of learning or actually a REQUIREMENT, I've seen people saying different things about it.

Rereading that triggered me. I raised a chocobo years ago but must have mentally blocked it out.

Some things I can add to vm0d's guide:

1) Growing in Wooden Pots give the best result and it takes like 5 days if not 4. Gardening require you to "examine" (interact) with the pots everyday. Performing these actions is what triggers the growing process, I think if you don't do it, nothing happens.
You trade the Wildgrass seed (can buy from the Green Thumb Moogle in Mog Garden, no KI required) and examine it, when it gives you the option to trade crystals trade a single earth crystal, examine again the day after, and the following day the option to harvest should be possible. There are like 3-4 possible results if you follow this path (Little worm, something else, Vomp Carrots) but very often it's gonna be Vomp Carrots, a lot of them, like 10+. Just make sure to have at least 4 Wooden Pots. Also remember that seeds and Crystals need to be either in your Mog Safe or Mog Safe 2, and that the resulting harvested stuff will appear in your Mog Safe or Mog Safe 2.

Do remember to keep re-obtaining your racing form after stat changes as it only remembers your chocobo stats from the moment you received your last racing form. You'll know stats have changed as when you trade the new racing form it will allow you to replace your chocobo with the same chocobo, otherwise they will tell you the chocobo is already registered.

When I first started raising a choco, I wanted the Blue Racing Silks so bad. So when I was able to race I would of course lose which I think gave 1 or 3 choco bucks. Yes, I did that 150 times to get them and that was years before you could skip that damned Sakura cut scene.

I will never raise another bird and just recently acquired the "Triumphant Owner" title for kicks.

could wait until day64~ when food stops having any effect, and start using chocolixirs (up to two per day) to refill chocobo energy to spend on "tell a story". for this, should also switch out of the str/end care plan before it hits first class and over to one of the discernment plans or basic care, just so your choco skills up a bit. you know, so you're not throwing fertilizer into an empty pot, per se. lol

I've been spamming "Exibit to the Public", Zegham Carrots, Azouph Greens and "Tell a Story" for the past week but my Discernment is still "Poor". How long does it actually take to get "A Bit Deficent" I wonder >.>
My original plan was to raise DSC until "a Bit Deficent" and then focus on STR/END which atm are at "Average".
I'm on day 33 approx, wonder if I did something wrong...

More data, Just killed Arch-Omega for the first time -- I got the Rare Enemy+ vorseal. I have killed normal Omega/Ultima previously years ago. I have also not yet killed Arch-Ultima. Bard in Selbina confirms omega/ultima kill titles.

if you started off on str/end care plans, that guarantees you lowered dsc/rec very nealy or all the way to zero.

the guides say that "regards as a parent" affection boosts the stat increase of care plans. have you been able to maintain that?

if you really want to get dsc up, might as well switch to digging for treasure care plan. should be able to hit lv2 by day 45 as long as you're keeping affection capped.

another option is to use those training tokens since your choco is old enough. think you need the Racing tokens for choco still in stables.

My Chocobo is FC/FC/Poor/Poor right now and I unlocked the vorseal. I'm still carrying on in the interests of maxing out my chocobo for the hell of it, I am past day 64 so I have my chocobo on Basic Care as Ninian's guide says Care Plans no longer affect stat growth and I'm feeding Zegham Carrots. I buy a stack of speed apples each day and do 12 free runs for tokens, when I get 80 I do a Discernment stat increase.

My goal is to at least reach a bit deficient discernment so I can teach my chocobo abilities, should be achievable before force retirement.

afaik the guides say only food stops doing anything after day 64, but the care plans still affect stats. i will reread to make sure i'm not missing something.

clearly, i just cannot read. this is in multiple places:

"Care plans will stop raising attributes starting on day 64. However, food and training upgrades will still affect attributes."

so, if you intend to raise a real chocobo, you need like 200 carrots, plus the medicines and chocolixirs.

that really changes the situation with learning abilities. since food is still working, then you really do want some discernment so you don't have to interrupt carrot feedings with very many days feeding chocolixir and telling stories.

I have a question about adolescence chocobo raising concerning the guide posted on here. Am I supposed to spam "tell a story" or "watch over the chocobo" after "go on a walk (regular) x2?" Also, you say you should give it Azouph greens along with carrots, but don't Azouph increase mental attributes? I read that Sharug increase Physical. vm0d's guide never says when to actually use "tell a story" to learn the abilities.
