Cloud is a cool guy without any serious reasons (yes, even before he copied Zack, he helped people and did cool positive stuff). Zack. Zidane. Maybe Squall. Bartz is just doing whatever. Tidus just plays blitzball but happens to save the world whenever. Snow is this too (doesn't need any reason).

Yeah, Tidus didn't do anything like grow on his journey across Spira, develop a backbone, support Yuna on her pilgrimage and convince the team to break the cycle of Sin that even resident badass Auron ended up falling prey to. He was just grabbing his blitzballs the whole game.

Tidus' whole reason for everything he did at first was to get home. You know, after Zanarkand gets attacked and Auron chokethrows him into Spira. Of course, little did he know Jecht was doing him a solid by having him live in the 'real' world for a while.
