I thought it was pretty obvious that no one was personally offended by the language. Pretty sure every single person who made the point "respectful language is better when trying to change things for the better" has used vulgarities extensively when venting about stuff. It's simply hard to take seriously someone who thinks USING BAD LANGUAGES makes them an adult and thinks anyone who has a problem with it must be having their poor precious feelings crushed. Words are just words and they are what we make of them - but having to slog through a tirade that's only been made novel-length by the inclusion of completely unnecessary vulgarities is yawn-inducing and obscures the actual point the person is trying to make.

It has been fairly fascinating to read that part of the debate and what each person thinks about it, though. And nice to confirm that there are still wannabe-edgy teenagers playing FF and not just us old folks.

Why hate on non verbal communication though? It is a tool that humans use to communicate. Because you cannot see my body language I therefor show you my emotion by using what we call now as a emotional icon, aka emoticon.

On topic at hand however, LBR is actually a great podcast in my opinion, do not get me wrong, there are times where I do not want to tune in, because it is not something I am interested in, but as the hosts of LBR have stated multiple times, it is not their intention to be something for everyone, and I give them mad props to do something that goes against the nomenclature that is the world as a whole and produce things that makes THEM happy, not someone else. I have been listening to LBR on and off since FFXI, and when they stopped making podcasts at the end of FFXIV 1.0 and essentially the end of FFXI, it felt a bit empty out there as far as podcasts go. In my opinion, which is yes, very unpopular to have an opinion on the internet as that does not go with the social norms, LBR needs to keep doing what they are doing. It has worked wonders and for someone who has not played FFXIV in a year, I keep up with the banter of LBR because it allows me to view interesting points in topics that may interest me and gives me a reason to go to other news sources and heaven forbid the blood spattered wikis to find out what is new about FFXIV. Otherwise this game is essentially dead to me, and has not been able to keep my interest other then the want to finish the story out and turn off the game till the next story comes out. What is really sad about FFXIV, is that like FFXI, the artifact quests for each class is "here's a little short story about the class... Okay we are done!" I wish this game had more to do with classes, and give you a reason to "main" a class and job, but, I digress.

A crowd-moderated site like Reddit is good for Q&A and factual news but can be frustrating for anyone wanting to debate or critique. These kind of very opinionated subjects will always get downvoted to hell since the platform is built to discourage any kind of editorial line on the site. What you are seeing here is people venting their frustrations to often comical proportions.

Sadly there's no easy fix to this and the Reddit staff knows about this. Hopefully they can come up with a better solution to encourage these kind of discussions.

TL;DR: The mods aren't the problem it's the platform they use. The mods only follow the same rules that are applied to the rest of Reddit.

Exactly what I think. I mean sure, i'd like to see shitposts and image spamming banned, but that still isn't going to change people downvoting others because they don't like their opinion and the lack of discussion.

I think this game is unique where you need a "decent player" list and not a black list. In FFXIV you are basically assumed mouth breather till proven otherwise.

Nothing in XIV has weight so it's no surprise the drama is in turn weak and fleeting.
