Temp measure to prevent the rule breaking video from being reposted over and over (people tried). Now that people are more willing to talk civil about things there's no need for it anymore.

And no mod thread on reddit about it? You can probably stick the discord info on the sidebar now that the post is nearly a month old.

I can't say I agree that the banning of all LBR content was necessary.

If you didn't have a solid understanding of your job's capabilities by that point, it was because you were a mouthbreathing fuck.

The amount of individual player skill necessary for XIV endgame is at least 20 times what it was for XI, and XIV isn't particularly difficult. XI's "difficulty" was in penalizing failure: wipe on Kirin, now you have to farm another pop, which is several hours of work. Wipe on Tiamat, another group takes is, now you have to wait another 3 days to even think about having another attempt. In XI, you had one shot at something, and if you fucked up that was it, you had to deal with whatever it took to try again. The skill barrier was significantly lower, practically trivial, because of it, the hardest thing was getting 18 people to all do their trivial task at once. Just like the hardest part of XIV is getting 8 people to do their slightly less trivial tasks at once.
Yeah, I agree with all of this. I think the reason why the community was so fierce was because of the fact that everybody had so much at stake. Failure had a huge cost associated with it. It took me 11 months to get my first 75 in XI. I've only been playing ffxiv for 12 weeks and Ive got two classes and a gatherer at max level already, and I basically walked into endgame. Shit, I'll never forget the XI CoP mission 3 paths took me 3 fucking months to find a group for, because either nobody was on it yet, or nobody wanted to waste 4 hours of their life and possibly delevel for no reward whatsoever. Now THAT was rage inducing. Too many cartoon cats on a forum? Gimme a fucking break.

This isn't true for exactly the reason you said: failure penalties.

Imagine if you were only allowed 2-3 wipes per week of coil/AS. XIV would take MUCH longer to learn and master, because you simply don't get the same number of reps.

If XI allowed you to easily restart and retry BCs/HNMs after wipes, you'd be right: the game would be ridiculously easy compared to XIV. But because XI is much stingier about allowing attempts, there is a much higher emphasis on executing correctly on the first try. XIV is much more forgiving in comparison.

Everybody who you wanted could raise people, key jobs (healers) had auto-raise, later on everyone had auto-raise via item, decision to wait for R2/R3 could be made on the fly depending on entire alliances status.

By this fact alone XI is an easier game, there was no real punishment for failing because outside of complete failure (basically, a lack of ability to do the fight, period) you were never in danger of losing a fight.

Mechanically, it's an easier game as well, there is no question about this.

This leaves you with strategy and coordination, and in that respect XI has a lead on XIV. I will say that coordinating 18 people is always more difficult than 8, but many things you did with 18 you did with 8, so it's a point in favor of XI.

    Did you use your 2hr?
If so, did you complete your run on that attempt?
If the answer is no, you failed the run today, come back in a few days/weeks when timers reset/you meet the pop conditions again.

XI also had a lot more situational conditions where poor execution means the run is failed and not really recoverable; Dynamis is probably the best example of this. And of course, any HNM content is 100% sink-or-swim with near-zero margin of recovery from wipe.

I definitely agree that XI wasn't harder mechanically, but the time required to actually accomplish tasks made it much more difficult to complete the tasks.

Example: Steps to get a Ridill at 75 cap:
Step 1: Are you able to attend a 3 hour window that happens daily? No? Wait until you're actually able to make it.
Step 2: Are you able to get 5+ other people who are geared and the correct composition to kill Fafnir? No? Repeat Step 1 for all 5+ individuals.
Step 3: Did you or the other 5+ people claim the imaginary dragon vs 100s of others? No? Fuck NASA bots repeat Step 1
Step 4: Did Fafnir pop? Nid pop. Repeat Step 1
Step 5: Did the Ridill drop (5~10% drop rate)? No? Repeat Step 1
Step 6: Did you get the Ridill? No? Repeat Step 1

Hard depends on the context of the situation for each of the games.

70 cap Maat for RDM lol. If you're not prepared get ready to waste tons of gil and time after you failed.

Off topic, but speaking of horrible spawns... remember Argus?

Every 18-30 hours either he or Leech King would spawn. If Argus happened to spawn, the droprate of his necklace was below 50%. So you'd have to camp him for 24 hours just to get his spawn time to know if the window was open or not, and then come back the next day and sit there for 18-30 hours and compete against bots for the chance to kill a mob that might not spawn, for a drop that might not drop. Well... wiki says it was 18-30 hours, but in my experience it was pretty much always 22-26. I can remember one night deciding to sit at my computer and pull an all-nighter after getting the spawn time, and he never popped. I got home from the bars and literally sat there all fucking night. Felt like garbage for two days after that. What a waste.

6 months later I switched to a dead server and ran there, and he was up, just sitting there. I was floored. That stupid motherfucker was just sitting there! After months of agony. Got the drop, almost screamed with excitement but my girlfriend was sleeping, so I was running around the living room like a fucking imbecile, while simultaneously trying not to be loud about it. I was new to the LS I was in, having just transferred, so I couldn't really celebrate with anybody I knew in chat. It felt like the most anti-climactic triumph of all time. They were a social LS too, so when I told them what happened, they were like, "Oh... ok. Grats! Anybody wanna run Moblin Maze Mongers?" Like no big fucking deal.

I wore that damn thing for years, even after it wasn't BiS anymore. I was never on top of the game by any means, by the standards that BG set. But I did have that stupid necklace... and if that wasn't the worst damn spawn in the game, I don't wanna know what was.

Nikki Seven (the kdumbf person) wrote in an email saying how the /r/ffxiv community sucks whiny ass. Arthars called into the show saying how the NA PUG community needs to Get Good at PUGing compared to the JP community. Confusing, I know, but use your big boy critical thinking skills. See, the neat thing about LBR is anyone can write or call in and say whatever the fuck they want to say! We don't even need institute temporary moratoriums on content! You wanna talk about fucked up shit or how shitty we are, fucking call or write in.

I could have SWORE we read that email on the show. If not, there is a disturbingly large amount of people emailing, demanding to rub (neck)beards together with Aniero.

There's no way I could be Nikki Seven; I have the attention span of a goldfish. I'd get halfway through writing that emai

Oh sorry, I just assumed that some huge moron must be part of the show because why else would you read something like that? If you want to read shit like that on your show because 'muh freedom of speech' it's up to you, but I don't think it encourages people taking you seriously. What's next? A dead baby joke segment? Maybe some some lala ERP logs?

Though I like how you used fuck over and over again at the end to hammer in the point of how pro-free speech and awesome your radio program is. I don't think I've ever seen more stiff cursing.

edit: Full disclosure I have problems with /r/ffxiv but I'm even less of a fan of giving crazy internet assholes incidental fame by reading off their brawl hall garbage.
