But no, no more long posts here, I've said what I've had to say, and your own hivemind is starting to solidify. It's not as fun as it was, as this thread has become its own echo chamber. But if you've got something to say, there's a comments section on Wordpress. Feel free. I don't censor or delete unless it's blatant spam, by that I mean actual spam, not opinions I disagree with. If you don't like my opinions and what I have to say or the way I say it, well that's your problem. The aim originally was to highlight some glaring issues while providing some entertainment to those that could jive with that sort of thing. That was accomplished at a level beyond what I expected, and took on a life of its own.

Oh sorry, I just assumed that some huge moron must be part of the show because why else would you read something like that? If you want to read shit like that on your show because 'muh freedom of speech' it's up to you, but I don't think it encourages people taking you seriously. What's next? A dead baby joke segment? edit: Full disclosure I have problems with /r/ffxiv but I'm even less of a fan of giving crazy internet assholes incidental fame by reading off their brawl hall garbage.

Juxta is correct, taking a caller or reading an email is not a ringing endorsement of that persons entire life and posting history. If we did that we would have to vet the 40+ emails we get and the upwards of 15 calls we get each week. Why read this one? It was well written and expertly performed. It made for a good 20 mins of radio and the sentiment resonated in me so I chimed in. It's sparked an interesting multi-faceted discussion on several different platforms and, like, why not? If you were me and had that email, would you not read it for fear of....what exactly? This discussion? Are you seriously questioning the reason why we read an email that lead to this amount of fun/drama/discussion? I know there's no dumb questions but that seems like a dumb question.

We're doing the show we want to do. Period. As for takings us seriously. Don't. Not sure why I need to keep saying this but we dont take ourselves seriously, why should anyone else? We never packaged or sold ourselves as a serious show. I mean, is that ok? Like, its' a pretty legit and common content strategy. We're not exactly breaking new ground here, lets be honest. Look, you want me to talk program strategy (spoiler: no you dont, I prattle on about the shit forever) I'd be happy to give you all the time in the world. But I'll say this, we're not out to just wildly swing at controversy or call people out or shit like that, it's just the thing we're fucking with right now. It was the only email on that topic for that show. Since then, we've actually had a few emails regarding reddit; not nearly as the response on BG and Reddit itself. And never EVER did we consider finding a "counterpoint." What the actual fuck. Like, do you seriously think that we have some kind of obligation to find an opposing viewpoint for an email that was sent to us? What would that even entail? Going to reddit, saying "hey folks, we got a nasty email saying you guys are chumps, what are your thoughts on it?" If it isn't obvious enough already, we at LBR love to shake things up, incite chaos, rile people up, rustle some jimmies. Boy, did it rustle some jimmies. More importantly, though, it started a dialog. /r/ffxiv has that button that hides screenshots now because we created conflict. Conflict isn't bad, people. We fucking welcome it on LBR. For the love of god, if you have an issue with fucking anything, call or email the show; there's a 95% chance that you shit will get air time. We'd love to have the reddit mods or even diehard redditors call in and defend their points, but they cannot take direct confrontation.

I'm not sure how I got there, but basically my point was that reading Nikki's email and then allowing people to respond to it is way better than trying to crowdsource all viewpoints on a topic that no one was passionate about (until said email blew up).
