We're talking just scanning an e-mail before you read it, you guys knew it was some lunatic rant. It isn't "vetting", it's the absolute minimum of common sense and effort. Why try to bullshit your way out of this? "we can't possible VET every e-mail even though we knew exactly what this e-mail was going to be after glancing at it".

He has a blog now, so since he's such an excellent writer maybe you can make him a reoccurring feature. I'm sure people would love to have a regular segment where some crazy guy is poked at.

We knew full well what the email was. I take issue with you acting like we should have played internet detective on the guy writing it to make damn sure we weren't reading anything written by a person who holds different opinions then we do. That's a totally unrealistic expectation. If you're saying that you wouldn't have read it based on the merits of its content, that is certainly a valid opinion. I happen to disagree. Moreover, I'm not going to act like some paternal figure and scold someone for a strongly worded email. If I take issue with the content of the email, I'll take issue with it in the moment. Jesus, how is this so complicated?

If we were trying to make a show for "everyone" or to be all inclusive or get the widest possible audience I think that might concern us. But if anyone wants to dismiss us for a bit, sure go for it. I'm remarkably comfortable with that idea.

Yeah I wouldn't read it based on it's content, I thought I made that really clear that that's all I was talking about. It's not paternalistic finger wagging to not read some embarrassing rant written by a stupid kid. I didn't expect you to use it as a 'learning moment', just exercise some judgement is all. Also I like how the only issue is his difference in opinion, not the fact that you're validating and feeding into the self defeating actions of someone who needs to turn off the computer. Sure the e-mail could have been in good fun, but I personally would have erred on the side of caution and read someone else's e-mail.

What valuable discussion is really happening here? A bunch of people laughing at this Nikki asshole? Some nebulous point about reddit being managed badly because they banned a guy on your podcast? It's just a dumb dramafest, no value and you know it.

Now the call in with the JP player(He wasn't Japanese if I remember) is a bit different, but it's more just prompted a lot of idiots to post about how japan is better over and over, I doubt there will be a meaningful change anywhere before they forget about it. Though those are at least meaningful discussions even if they miss the fact that the JP community is only at this point because they didn't suffer fools from the get go.

Well I guess in a very strict way saying "Yeah, I did that thing and I'd do it again because I was 100% right and only good things came out of it, it was a completely positive thing and we all benefited from amazing discussions afterward.", but it's really not what I'd qualify as taking responsibility. Yeah admitting to a mistake, the ultimate internet defeat. I don't even really care if he apologizes, he didn't post the video to reddit, and he wasn't the one continuing to do it. So he's really not at fault, but taking responsibility would just be 'oh whoops I boosted the message of a crazy asshole who has nothing worthwhile to say' not acting like it sparked some conversation that 'needed to happen'. Acting like he's Julian Assange because /r/ffxiv deleted a dramatic reading of Nikki's rage mail is just stupid.

My idea of responsibility is not saying, "A rando sent us this e-mail so we had to read it on air, our hands were tied at that point; to do anything less is censorship, bro."

LBR chose to read that e-mail because either 1) they thought it had merit or 2) they thought it was so dumb that it was worth pointing and laughing at (e.g. the "random fail" thread here). And it clearly wasn't #2.

At the very least, own your choices.

Perhaps they simply thought it would be entertaining when they chose it and I think if you look at the reaction in the chat as they were reading it... many who were there would have agreed.
