I'm only ~taking it seriously~ since people want to have a dialog about the state of Reddit which I kind of have an obvious investment in. If this had nothing to do with me I'd be shit posting harder than I'm currently shit posting for sure.

idk on the one hand i want to applaud the effort and hot pockets that went into crafting these lengthy shitposts, podcasts & rants. but on the other, seeing someone misusing the phrase "of which" and screwing up basic sentence construction (to the extent that their sentences read like a transcript of a kid screaming at their parents, or a guest on jeremy kyle)... it's making me kinda apathetic :/ can we get some genuinely compelling antagonism someday, xiv? will that day come?

Yeah I wouldn't read it based on it's content, I thought I made that really clear that that's all I was talking about. It's not paternalistic finger wagging to not read some embarrassing rant written by a stupid kid. I didn't expect you to use it as a 'learning moment', just exercise some judgement is all. Also I like how the only issue is his difference in opinion, not the fact that you're validating and feeding into the self defeating actions of someone who needs to turn off the computer. Sure the e-mail could have been in good fun, but I personally would have erred on the side of caution and read someone else's e-mail.

That just comes down to a difference of opinion then. There was a time where I would have agreed with you and I probably wouldn't have read it on the air. But we took a chance and I'm pretty satisfied with the result. And to clarify: the paternalistic finger wagging usually comes after a show reads an email like this on the air. Where the crew goes "oh that's not nice" and tries to, as you put it, use it as a "teaching moment". Ew.

What valuable discussion is really happening here? A bunch of people laughing at this Nikki asshole? Some nebulous point about reddit being managed badly because they banned a guy on your podcast? It's just a dumb dramafest, no value and you know it.

Eanae and I have opened a dialogue. If nothing else in this almost 40 page behemoth, I think that's fucking worth something. I havent been able to keep up with all the threads but I find it hard to believe that there hasn't been anything of value to come from this. And the other thing is, when you originate a conversation like this, you don't have control over the shape and direction it takes. When you make media you cannot control or even really accurately predict its impact or effect. We could have a conversation about "making responsible media" but in all honesty, nobody else wants to have that conversation and I dont think anyone wants to read me go on and on about it.

And as many others have pointed out, this is massively entertaining. I dont know that Ive ever had so much fun in the history of doing this show.

Well I guess in a very strict way saying "Yeah, I did that thing and I'd do it again because I was 100% right and only good things came out of it, it was a completely positive thing and we all benefited from amazing discussions afterward.", but it's really not what I'd qualify as taking responsibility. I figured he'd just give a small apology maybe ask people to stop posting the video on reddit (It's not like reading the e-mail was that horrible, they didn't post it themselves or anything) and if he already did give that small apology then maybe he shouldn't be on here rationalizing why he did nothing wrong over and over again.

Limit Break Radio made the choice to read a listener email that was, in my opinion, humorously and energetically written which expressed sentiments about the Reddit FFXIV community that were echoed by myself. I chose to express my opinions following the email. It has sparked a massive discussion. No discussions are 100% good everywhere they exist. The nature of discussion is far more complex and only time can tell if there will be any benefit from this dialogue. Hell, if nothing else, this thread has produced a dialogue between Eanae and I and allowed us to reach at least some kind of civil understanding. I don't think I'm rationalizing my decisions, I'm choosing to stand by every decision and statement I've made here and on the show. I will not apologize for reading the email or defending the segment. There's nothing to apologize for. It was a funny as shit email. If you don't agree just hit play on that new Jeff Dunham special I assume you paused to read this.

Perhaps they simply thought it would be entertaining when they chose it and I think if you look at the reaction in the chat as they were reading it... many who were there would have agreed.

No I'm dead serious. I just think a lot of the stuff on the internet is shit and people lower their standards because it fits some quasi-political belief structure. My main issues here is contextualization of a nontroversy drama shit flinging fest into 'the best week ever' because people are really bored. I'd pretend to care about Nikki being poked at for entertainment but you had really no way knowing if he was a real loony toon, and I'm not going to lie and pretend I care if he makes more of an ass out of himself.

You can see the same bitter stick up ass shit in almost any posts by my anywhere on the net. I was at first just confused about the event because I really didn't understand much of it or care to, but talking to you about it has been interesting and now I have a better handle on it.
