I was probably being unkind. Think of it like the opposite of the cheerleader effect - a few gems in a pile of bad don't get acknowledged as much because the average drags them down. #3 was definitely one of the ones I thought looked good. Her and the one with long, loose, wavy curls. I don't see any of the appeal in hairstyles that look like the scalp is about to be ripped off. Maybe it's more functional, I guess?

depends on the braider, some are so skilled you wont feel a thing.

I had braids once, scalp gets too dry and cant wash them. cut my hair after that.
