I was thinking about how things are going now-a-days, and it seems that the power of words has been shifted from the intent of how they're said, over to the interpretation of the person who hears them. That seems pretty ridiculous to me.

The thing she seems to miss is respect. If I respect you and you come up to me and ask me to call you something, odds are I'll do it. If I don't respect you, I won't.
I have a co-worker who is trans. She is very pleasant and we banter with each other. I have no problem calling her whatever she wants to be called because I respect her and think she is a good person.
There was a trans person at my school who was a complete fucking asshat. He went out of his way to harass and hurt people, including getting into fights, well before he started to transition. He was an attention whore in the most literal sense of the word, and if I could never encounter him again I would live a lovely life. I refuse to refer to him as anything but his last name. I do not respect him, so I will not use his pronouns because I do not consider him a human being.
