I could become a woman and rape you as a way to lessen the statistical insignificance of female on male rape.

Its the fact you can go to the doctor and say "hey, I'm a *insert opposite gender*" and the doctor will give you a note stating as such, without really questioning it. No "so how long have you been transitioning" or "nowhere in your medical history does it show any transition consultations or medication" or anything like that, just "oh ok, cool, here you go". From my understanding, the girl in the video went to a walk-in clinic, so the doctor may have zero knowledge of her as a patient. And Trudeau wanting to make it illegal to question someones gender is compounding it. Its literally like that South Park episode where Garrison tells Principal Victoria to "you dont want this hot potato, just let him use the girls room".

They might as well just remove "sex" from identification at that point.

That actually seems like a much better solution to me. If people are going to list their preferred gender rather than their actual sex, then listing sex serves zero purpose. Unless new Canadian IDs are going to have both sex and gender?

I honestly don't give a fuck about being able to be listed as whatever gender, but making it illegal to question someone is ridiculous. Maybe I'm just too much of a 'Murican but I don't think anything ever trumps freedom of speech in terms of personal liberty. If someone wanted to refer to me using the wrong pronouns, I'd be annoyed and if it was happening consistently in, say, an office, I'd probably go to my boss or HR, but to make it illegal is way beyond reason.

So I know it's been a bit but to go back to the SA idiocy but decided to do some reading up and it's kind of starting to make sense. At first I thought it was that weird so many people going to university would be that retarded and they were just giving a presentation at it. I mean universities have to have some kind of standards right?

Apparently they do it's just so low most wouldn't call it a standard. Seems they have some sort of assessment in grade 12 to see if you pass and is a minimum requirement for university (though some have very slightly higher standards that). It's bar is ridiculously low (In theory 30% average could pass though in reality it's hard to get those exact scores so 35-40% is more realistic) and 3/7 classes they get assessed on are of their choosing so can just pick easier stuff. Unsurprisingly with standards so low the failure rate at the universities is ridiculously high

In short I'm no longer surprised people in those universities actually believe in black magic lightning and have actually gained an appreciation for the American school system lol

Honestly, while I have a better opinion of America's schooling than most do, it's still not that great an opinion of our collegiate product.

With *one* exception, of all the instances where I worked with the product of other students, or when they assessed mine, I never encountered another student who belonged in college. In six cases, they literally only passed because the grades were group grades, and the idiots (and I mean people who literally couldn't pass middle school math-- in one case a gal who couldn't do basic two-digit addition or subtraction) passed because they were intentionally grouped with stronger students.

In the required writing classes, the critiques I received universally failed to address the content of my essays, because "It seemed like a great essay, but I didn't know what a lot of the words mean." That is an exact quote from one, though multiple repetitions of the theme were common. Meanwhile, given criticism of writing was taken as either personal attacks, or utterly ignored (and then criticized, without exception, by the professor when presented to everyone).

Basically... while the type of unbelievable in the SA vid was shocking in America, the degree of it isn't surprising at all. And having lived for a significant part of my life in non-Western nations, I'm really not surprised to see the non-science/anti-science mentality pushed as, well, science, or at least the rigorous equal of science. To a degree very much *not* felt in the west, magic and mysticism are very much accepted as reality, as axioms that need disproved rather than as extraordinary claims in need of extraordinary evidence.

Back in my day you got held back in Kindergarten for something like that. No seriously my Kindergarten teacher held people back. In fact more or less regardless of how well they did she had a policy of holding back the 2 slowest because life is a competition or something

Crap forgot about that. Though it oddly let me look at the whole thing the first time

edit: seems clicking on a link from someone else worked so idk... I'll just spoiler the whole thing then

    Spoiler: show
Tech giants like Google and Facebook always deny that their platforms favor some viewpoints over others, but then they don’t do much to avoid looking censorious. This week a conservative radio host and author is wondering why YouTube classifies his educational web clips as “potentially objectionable” material.

Dennis Prager’s “PragerU” puts out free short videos on subjects “important to understanding American values”—ranging from the high cost of higher education to the motivations of Islamic State. The channel has more than 130 million views, and the spots tend to include an expert guest and background animation. As you might guess, the mini-seminars do not include violence or sexual content.

But more than 15 videos are “restricted” on YouTube, a development PragerU announced this month. This means the clips don’t show up for those who have turned on filtering—say, a parent shielding their children from explicit videos. A YouTube spokesperson told us that the setting is optional and “based on algorithms that look at a number of factors, including community flagging on videos.” Yet it’s easy to imagine a flood of users reporting a political video—microagressed college students have a lot of free time—and limiting a viewpoint’s audience.

Here are some of the topics that are apparently too sensitive to learn about and discuss freely: Did Bush Lie About Iraq?; Israel’s Legal Founding; Why Did America Fight the Korean War?; Why Don’t Feminists Fight for Muslim Women? PragerU started a petition calling for YouTube to remove the restriction, and more than 66,000 people have signed.

YouTube is free to set its own standards, but the company is undercutting its claim to be a platform for “free expression.” If anyone there would like to brush up on the concept, Mr. Prager has a video about it

to be fair, I don't remember how to do division by hand because I stopped using it ~15 years ago and have never needed to since. I graduated high school 10 years ago.

"You need to learn this because you won't always have a calculator" alas.
