Even if it's not all religions, I don't see any problems if it was for teaching purposes, whether academic or social. And, it all depends on the manner it was taught. Teaching kids "hey, this is what Muslim culture is about" for the sake of accurate cultural knowledge of their peers is absolutely fine (which the body of text seems to suggest) is very different from forcing them to take part in religious rituals (which the headline and lede seem to suggest).
The headline seems a bit dubious to me; actively participating in chants is very different from having to memorize something. And the quotation around both instances of forces is pretty questionable.
