ah, the first person on my friends list so far to bitch about the war on Christmas and how saying "Happy Holidays" is an attempt to 'shame him into denying his Christianity.'

3 years ago, in a group of friends, on Christmas day I wished everyone a Merry Christmas. First reply was, "*I* am going to go with the more correct 'Happy Holidays.' "

I ain't claimin' there's a War on Christmas (I mean, there is, but not in the way most Christians claim it, and self-proclaimed Christians are exclusively guilty of it), but there are definitely folks who view it as something to be opposed and resisted as a cultural thing.

No. Saying, "Happy Holidays" in response is okay. Being a condescending jerkwad, insulting someone else's greeting, and implying a wrongness in the initial greeting isn't okay.

well there is technically some 'war on christmas' by trying to encourage the suppression of the phrase

idk why people can't just accept it. I'd venture a guess and say it's primarily because of white guilt and trying to 'equalize' things. I'm cool with people wishing me a happy kwanzaa if it's that time of the year, a happy rama dama lama, or whatever else. There are relatively few things Cultural Christians do that I agree with. The War on Christmas that I see is mostly from Christians distorting the purpose of Christmas or minimizing it, or making it out to be something as pathetic as secularists saying Happy Holidays and making that out to be an assault.

I *DO* have a problem with Christians (or anyone, really), being told, "Don't say Merry Christmas!". And there is kind of an attempt to, as Thunder put it, suppress the phrase. I have just as much a problem with Christians trying to suppress Happy Holidays. Say whatever you want-- I don't expect secularists to celebrate Christmas the way that I do, or even necessarily celebrate it at all. Imma just be glad you decided to wish me joy, and to include me in your happiness. That's a pretty cool thing, whatever your beliefs.

I basically agree with you. I don't tell anyone they can't say so and so for the holidays. I just don't think its as widespread a thing as War on Christmas makes it out to be.
