You're not familiar with the East bay area are you? By and large the area is an utter cesspit filled with horrible people. Some of the highest crime rates in state idk maybe the coast though it's very ahem interesting how the crime is distributed though Berkley is kind of an exception. Home of the Oakland Raiders. Riots going on/about to start somewhere most the time they just looking for an excuse. Man if it wasn't for Berkley labs which are pretty amazeballs I'd say nuke the entire East bay and hope it doesn't blow north to me lol

That's another thing, a lot of people come out of the woodwork just to participate in a good riot, they really don't give a fuck about what the initial protest was about. If you're going to attribute all of that to a specific cause you betray your biases.

The thing about Milo is that it doesn't matter what you do, he'll use any action against him (or lack thereof) to energize his base.

If he was simply blocked from speaking, his people would drum up controversy about free speech. When they tell him to fuck off he says they just can't rebut him. Try to engage him and he'll just bullshit around the whole time and use every bad faith trick in the book.

The riots and the people assaulting others are assholes, but acting like Milo and the people who encourage him are not partially responsible (Milo is not stupid, he knows what he's doing), or even somehow victims in all this is so much shit. Generally when someone focuses all their criticism on only one it means they're either not thinking about the overall problem very much, or they're deliberately directing anger towards specific group(s) while talking about how neutral they are to trick misinformed people in category A.

Ehh depending on the Bay Area, most of it isn't super left leaning. Berkeley is a shit hole, Oakland is almost like two different cities depending on which side you go into. San Francisco is nothing more than a tourist trap. It's just those areas that make the rest of the Bay Area look like alt left turd sandwich eating shit bags.

Whats their goal though? To shut his speeches down? To stop his rhetoric? I didn't know who the fuck Richard Spencer and Milo were until people started "protesting" them. Now I know all about them and end up defending their right to say words out loud without being violently attacked or business being destroyed in a city.

Do I like what they have to say? No not really. Milo is right about the liberals behavior though. Their actions make them worse than the thing they are protesting. And while not all are out there being violent they sure are marching right along side them.

I don't have a problem with protests, but trying "shut someone down" just ends up making them a martyr, drawing more attention to that person etc, etc... Can you not debate Milo/Shapiro/Spencer? Is your arguement against them so weak you need to riot?

When you OK this for one side then you OK it for the other, and for all the talk about how the right is violent, fascists, racists etc... I only see the left acting that way anymore.

Hey I specified East!!! Like Almeda county is around 80% dem Contra Costa is like 70%. Though even Marin is fairly heavily left leaning as well though starts to peter off going north

Off the top of my head in terms of crime rates Richmond, Emeryville, San Leandro, Antioch, Pleasant Hill, Hayward pretty terrible too though yeah still somewhat depends on where in the cities

San Leandro isn't that bad. I lived there most of my adult life, and work downtown. Hayward ever since they redid downtown several years ago isn't bad either. It's the unincorporated areas like Ashland that are the shit holes. Emeryville is kind of turning into Berkley light which scares me. When I drive Uber/Lyft though, if I get a ride that takes me to Richmond, as soon as I'm done dropping off my passenger, I turn myself offline and get the fuck out of there though.

There is no "right" for you to speak on a campus. He has no "right" to an audience. I would've thought even Nynja would've gotten past that nuance of free speech a long time ago. Administrators should block Milo from giving speeches at them except for shitty diploma mills just like flat earthers and creationists. Milo even moreso because he actively tries to cause shit. The fact that you hadn't heard of Milo doesn't prove anything because plenty of people did. He was hoodwinking people across many campuses and you would've heard of him eventually because like I said, it's impossible to engage/debate with him, because he's not acting in good faith. He's not interested in discussing anything, and engaging legitimizes him, certainly when you're in a prestigious school.

When's the last time you actually watched any of Milo's speeches or kept up on specifics of what he was doing? You think his shit where he's pointing harassment at specific individuals should be allowed? You don't see the pattern here, where if you ignore him, he just escalates until you notice him so he and his followers can play the victim? Yeah the "other side" doing it would be totally the same, we all know straight people and cis people are just as discriminated against.

And by the way, plenty of people voiced their concerns and protested about Milo without rioting in the past. Administrators didn't respond, like when that trans girl was harassed the administrator basically wrote an open letter saying something like "yeah harassment of students wont be tolerated"...after Milo had already given his speech over lots of people telling the administrator to not allow him on campus (so basically he actually did nothing). I doubt Berkeley students didn't inform their administrators of this either. Even with all that you decide to focus almost solely on the riots (which, again, yes are terrible) and "but hear both sides rabble rabble".

Also I'm sure you'll bring it up so- Milo being gay/Jewish/whatever is relevant to nothing, there have always been collaborators in any conflict, including there being Jewish Nazis. I'd like to think you wouldn't stoop to something that's essentially equivalent to the "I have x friends" argument.

Well I suppose it depends on what you are used to and what you use to compare to. Living in Sonoma County (and even then grew up in the more suburb valley areas) and then some smaller towns of eastern Washington most my life which were far from idyllic the crime rates of all the cities I listed tend to be 50%+ higher than areas I've lived most my life (though looking at more recent stats it does seem like Hayward overall has gotten better very recently but still got that stigma) and no riots. Though some seriously weird ass people here. Or in the case of places Emeryville and Oakland like insanely higher. Wow this is some funny stuff looking up stats. Emeryville has only about 6% the population of my town but has half as many property crimes and a 4th as many violent crimes. It's actually worse than Oakland just much smaller scale

Granted been awhile since I dipped my toes in but I've never felt less safe walking around anywhere I've lived than when I was in Oakland, Richmond and parts of Hayward (mostly stayed near the airport at the time which was decent but not far out wasn't) and that includes when I was chased by an alligator walking home in SC at like 2 am lol.

Probably late to the party, but it looks like Milo Yiannopoulos setup a college scholarship exclusive to white straight men called "The Privilege Grant" lol.

The bay area is weird when it comes to assuming what the crime ridden shit holes are. People point to Oakland and Richmond, yet we are only 33 days into the year, San Jose already has had it's fourth murder. Antioch over 2016 averaged a freeway drive by like every 40 days or something crazy like that. Even Pleasanton has had an uptick in violent crime, though most lazy people just blame BART's expansion into Castro Valley and Pleasanton for the uptick in crime.

I always find this so appalling considering how often the right wing is all about their feelings. Hell, Trump was elected with a platform that was based entirely on how things feel.

When people who called me ignorant rear their ugly heads again.

You do know I'm Canadian right? I've alluded to it hundreds of times. In Canada, we dont have the American Constitution with its amendments and shit, namely the first amendment that guarantees freedoms religions, expression, assembly and petition, as well as the freedom of speech, any speech, so people like Milo can run their bullshit and its in the American Constitution that he is allowed to do so.

In Canada, we have the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Section 2 covers freedom of expression, including speech. Section 1 covers that the Govt of Canada has the right to limit freedoms so long as the limits are reasonable and can be justified, which they have done in regards to hate speech. As such, hate speech laws are in the criminal code of canada under sections 318 and 319.

For your ignorant ass, this means that in the American Constitution, Milo has the freedom to speak whatever the fuck garbage he wants to speak, and it is protected by said American Constitution. You dont have to like it, you dont have to approve of it, hell, you have the freedom to hate him for it, but it is in the American Consitution that Americans love to live by. Theres a reason he doesnt have any speeches on Canadian soil.

You're ignorant because you think no one being up in arms over a nazi getting socked means we're all for shutting down his 1st amendment right. That is just not true; he is perfectly free to talk the shit he wants, just like another citizen is perfectly free to walk up and sock him, and then face the repercussions after the fact. No one is under any obligation to defend him while he exercises his right to talk shit. No one is under any obligation to listen to him while he talks his shit.

Love how you focus on that one line and apparently didn't read the two before it, and then complain about being called ignorant. You participate a shitload in these discussions so I found it unbelievable that you've never come across the idea of the First Amendment not applying to private spaces before, even being Canadian. The only thing it protects you from is big brother government from oppressing you for saying crazy shit (even that has limits like, you know, inciting violence). Nothing entitles Milo to being allowed on a campus if the administrators say he shouldn't be there and he has no right to an audience. He can say whatever crazy shit he wants but I don't think he should be allowed near academia, and if they don't allow him it wouldn't be "suppressing free speech".

Since you apparently by your admission are not familiar with American law, maybe you should stop trying to "school" Americans about it simultaneously or at least try to read the posts you're responding to before doing so.

Uh, no. That is called assault and battery. That is against the law. The fact that it is against the law means its not a freedom.

Bruh, in English, if there is a comma after a statement just do yourself a favor and finish reading the sentence until the period. Context matters, strawmen don't.

    http://www.dailycal.org/2017/01/26/u...-speak-campus/

Despite numerous cancellations of talks by Milo Yiannopoulos at other UC campuses and widespread opposition at UC Berkeley, Chancellor Nicholas Dirks has affirmed Yiannopoulos’ right to speak on campus at a Wednesday event organized by the Berkeley College Republicans.

In a letter released Thursday, Dirks stressed that while UC Berkeley does not endorse Yiannopoulos’ controversial views or tactics, the campus would continue to uphold the values of the Free Speech Movement by sanctioning Yiannopoulos’ presence and protecting his freedom of expression.
They gave him permission to speak on their campus before the protests riots.

What fucking strawmen? You literally just said that people have the freedom to punch him in the face. The fact there are repercussions, legal ones, after doing means it is NOT a freedom.
