Permissions and rights are two very separate things, how do you still not understand this?

Is Berkeley not private property? You dont have the freedom of rights to do whatever you want on someones private property. The administrators at the time granted him access to be on their private property to exercise his freedom of speech. If they dont grant him permission to their private property, then he has no right to express his freedom of speech on their property, which is the case as of the moment Berkeley canceled his appearance.

Also, if you really want to argue semantics for whatever reason, you don't seem to understand that even if the administrators allow him on campus, that still isn't a "right" because being allowed to speak on a campus is still a contingent privilege. Therefore, protests.

So the students grant permission to who is and isnt allowed on campus now? I'm pretty sure thats up to the administrators.

There never was any protest, it just went from 0 to riot. They didnt protest the administrators into revoking his permissions, they forced the administrators into revoking his permissions for the safety of the students on campus by rioting. At best, thats called Bullying...or theres another word that could be used that falls under the following definition:
"the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims."

It's a public university so I don't think it really counts as private property. But I believe they still have some level of authority over use of public spaces granted thru the governing bodies in charge with the UC system. From what I'm seeing the campus police were the ones to cancel the event and even put the university on lockdown due to safety concerns

Its public in the sense that they wont question every human being on the campus if they belong, but at the same time, they do have the authority to kick you off the property and you can still be charged for trespassing.

It doesnt change the fact that my previous comment wasnt wrong (but I'm stupid and ignorant, gotcha), and its still a privilege to be on Berkeley's public property and not a right as a free american.

People's Park protest is such a terrible example.

Timeline:
* Hippies make People's Park in sort of an abandoned area without permission
* The college administration wants to make a sports stadium there, but the hippies want it to keep being a park
* Yada yada, back and forth, peaceful protests and occupation
* Hippies and the administration hash out a deal
* Reagan, without warning the administration or the protesters, sends in the police, who clear the area and put up a fence
* 3000 people show up to protest and things start getting riot-y
* Reagan calls in the national guard with shotguns and buckshot. Someone dies. They charge people with unlawful assembly, but afaik no one is ever convicted.
* ??? blame libs and storm out of press conferences ???
* Presidency
* It's still a park

So Reagan managed to take a situation that had already been resolved and exploit it for personal gain and almost nothing else at the cost of only one liberal life while resolving absolutely no problems and unarguably exacerbating the situation.
