Im half mexican but everyone confuses me for whatever they want to think i am apparantly. been called everything but african...ill be talking to people and they'll just out of the blue go "so what race are you?" I like to have them guess, and no one ever guesses mexican or even mixed.... ive gotten answers from persian to asian, middle eastern (wat), native american to british to australian, etc.

I honestly don't get people's fascination. the question of what race i am mildly offends me. like "why does it matter? you were talking to me just fine a few minutes ago about whatever and now you had to go and make pull a politics/religion at thanksgiving question. does knowing my race somehow help you understand me better?"

If you want to know more about my background you might ask me what kind of cultural background i have/where i grew up. you'll get a much more useful answer.

Maybe it's just me but asking what race you are just seems like an unpacked more relaxed way of asking ones cultural background. I'd say you just have a highly clenched asshole

more relaxed? what does me being half mexican have to do with my cultural background? i was born and raised in southern california in an american household. i don't even know spanish. I like mexican food, but i like a lot of different foods.

race has jack shit to do with your cultural background. there's white african kids, black British citizens, and more. asking them what race they are wouldn't tell them anything these peoples culture. it would just reaffirm their innate biases.

If the first reaction to someone showing interest in knowing more about you by asking slowpitch questions about your racial background is "REEEEEEEEEEEE!" then I have serious concern for you.
