shoulda kept going. they eventually get to actually explaining the reasoning. apparently the team is named after a confederate regiment, not the animal. this regiment was allegedly extremely vicious both on and off the battlefield.

I say allegedly because I have no idea if its true or not. it wouldn't surprise me, but it could just be a case of "confederacy bad"


anyway I tuned out once they objected to caging the actual live tiger. which, to be fair, is a legit complaint, but they phrased it so obnoxiously I couldn't stomach it.

A lot of the major colleges and universities in the South have ties to the Confederacy, this is a fair complaint, but there's much bigger fish to fry than a Tiger mascot. Like, I dunno, Ole Miss Rebels, Virginia Cavaliers, Vanderbilt Commodores, Tennessee Volunteers, etc.

i think probably only self-righteous college students can muster enough insipidity to make people sympathize with confederates and not the descendants of their victims
