I really had trouble choosing here or the Trump thread for this. Chose here as to not dilute the actual important discussions.
Stage performance of a Trump themed Julius Caesar had all of it's funding pulled after conservative outrage over it. When the play is more of a message to liberals about not being retarded than a message to conservatives about liberal intent.
I agree with this entirely. Language and labels are about communication and understanding, not making oneself obtusely unique. It dilutes and damages the message of equality for everyone on the spectrum to outsiders.
Calling yourself straight, gay, bisexual, asexual, etc, is simple to understand, and through understanding comes empathy. Obfuscating the message confuses and annoys people, which makes them default to mocking, or being alienating at being mocked themselves for not immediately comprehending.
That's why I asked what the effective difference is between pansexuality and bisexuality, and frankly it doesn't sound like one exists in the confines of reality. Being "attracted to everyone, regardless of age or gender" is nice in theory, but I've never met or seen evidence that anyone like that exists in practice. Someone can be bisexual and attracted to peers, younger (legal), and older people. That's easy to grasp.
Everyone who's sexual has preferences of some kind, though, so the all encompassing "attracted to everything" seems lofty and absurd. Perhaps I've misunderstood, though; I'm willing to be corrected or engaged.
i kind of doubt you are willing since you either ignored or failed to comprehend my post but once more unto the breach.
pansexuality =/= attracted to everyone. as previously stated the default position is still activity between consenting adults so pedophilia and hebephilia are not in play. moreover no one is attracted to everything in equal measure. i like girls but i do not like every girl. you like men but you do not like every man. pansexuality merely means one's basis for attraction is not contingent upon biological sex or gender, it does not mean there is no basis for attraction.
in practice, there is often little difference between pans and bis. but bisexual does implicitly suggest there are only two sexes and two genders to which they are attracted (though many bisexuals go with a 'two or more' definition), a notion pansexuals take issue with and so they seek linguistic rectification through how they identify themselves.
personal attacks tyven
That's rather unfair. You've clarified quite a bit here that wasn't in your original post.
I would posit that you failed to read or comprehend my post, or are further responding to panda, considering I never opted for the pedophilia or hebephilia derision, and specifically said "younger (legal)."
I appreciate the clarification that age and personal preferences are irrelevant to pansexuality's definition, and still very much in play. From what I gather, it's essentially bisexuality that specifically seeks to include intersex people, who are not necessarily precluded or included otherwise. That's an easier interpretation for someone to wrap their mind around, if it's correct.
And that was largely my and, I assume, Seha's point. Language is for communication and understanding. Labels need to be easy to digest and singular in definition, or they're going to be misunderstood, misquoted, and cause mocking or alienation. See how several people, besides you, had sardonically misunderstood definitions?
There's such a thing as overcomplicating something, or being too verbose. Boil it down for the masses.
then my apologies for a lack of clarity. i would say your definition is exact, it is a bisexuality that explicitly includes intersex people, the gender fluid, all who do not fit neatly on a binary sex and gender system.
also i don't really like boiling things down. i would rather elevate the masses and help them construct casseroles of understanding.
See this is why nothing gets done.
I thought pansexual was like, you're into Mrs. Potts from Beauty and the Beast...![]()
I'm pretty sure pansexuality is just a subset of Munchausen syndrome.
If it weren't for discussions about sexuality gender I never would have known there were so many mental health professionals randomly browsing the internet at all times.
