Don't worry, free speech is one of those issues where the people defending it and the people wanting to get rid of it switch as political power vascilates. The only reason conservatives are up in arms about it right now is that they are the targets and you had college kids that grew up with the safety net of Barack Obama for their entire politically conscious lives. Now that they are faced with a President who is openly hostile to them and openly hostile to the expression of their very selves, the left will start caring about free speech again. Meanwhile Tomi Lauren and co. will all stop caring if it means getting to shut down people who are hostile to Trump.

It's very broad stroke, it's also generally accurate. The right started caring about free speech as soon as they felt their viewpoints were being silenced on campus and the left stopped caring about it as soon as they were the ones suppressing dissent (whether or not the justification was hurt fee-fees). Ann Coulter never gave a shit about free speech until it became ancillary to her being able to spread her general vomit mix of viewpoints. Tomi rose to infamy by catering to the anti-PC crowd by "Telling snowflakes how it is because they don't like it" in response to the right wing surge of wanting to "stick it to" the left.

Organizations that truly care about free speech, like the ACLU, were under attack by some on the left for "enabling" nazis. Those critics have mostly gone silent now that the ACLU is a key component of the Trump resistance.

Free speech is one of those things that people don't appreciate until they need it. And you don't need it until you're the side under attack.

Christ it finally happened. One of my friends posted something from a dude named 'MAGA MAN' involving a long twitter post about how tough being in the military is and how people who are trans might not be mentally capable of handling it. I responded that the same fucking argument has been used against gays and women and we still have dudes returning home and shooting people. We'll see if he unfriends me. I seriously thought the sphere I was in wasn't this level of retarded.
