It doesn't need any explanation really. If you have a problem with pizza or general tso's chicken then you can get fucked.

Yeah. That's kind of the point in the US. We borrow basic concepts from many different cultures.
Besides, General Tso's is fucking boss status regardless of origin. I'd claim that shit.
They aren't mad because they're serving food from other cultures, they're mad because they're calling them "Banh Mi" or "General Tso's Chicken" and making them completely fucking wrong lol.
It's the high-class version of "this food sucks" with a dash of "you're making *insert ethnic food here* look bad" by preparing it so incorrectly.
Cole slaw on a Banh Mi or steamed chicken for General Tso's is pretty fucking bad lol.The traditional Banh Mi Vietnamese sandwich that Stevenson Dining Hall promised turned out to be a cheap imitation of the East Asian dish. Instead of a crispy baguette with grilled pork, pate, pickled vegetables and fresh herbs, the sandwich used ciabatta bread, pulled pork and coleslaw. -
Prudence Hiu-Ying, a College sophomore from China, cited an instance when Stevenson was serving General Tso’s chicken, but the product did not resemble the popular Chinese dish. Instead of deep-fried chicken with ginger-garlic soy sauce, the chicken was steamed with a substitute sauce, which Hiu-Ying described as “so weird that I didn’t even try.”
Again tho, it's irrelevant. If you expect a cafeteria banh mi to taste like it does when the mom you'll live with until 35 makes it then go work at the bank or go fuck yourself.
I remember when I was in ranger school and all we ate was MRE's.
I don't remember complaining that the GENERAL TSO'S CHICKEN MRE wasn't deep fried.
Sure, but you weren't paying 49k a year to go to ranger school![]()
Goddamn I need to open a university.
you know, every time I think the cultural appropriation police can't surprise me, they prove me wrong... this is one such example.
like, where do I even start? you want cafeteria food to be high-quality and authentic? you don't understand that the globalization of foreign cuisine is a worldwide trend that has nothing to do with racism and is not at all limited to the United States? and how often immigrants themselves move into a new area and adapt their recipes to the tastes of the locals in order to survive?
I just. I can't. I just fucking can't. this has to be an onion type deal, it just has to lol
while we're at it let's sue chef boyardee, that racist bastard has been thieving from italian culture for decades.
they aren't saying "don't serve Japanese food, don't serve Vietnamese food, don't serve Italian food"
fuck why do i bother
PC ATTITUDES ARE TAKING OVER ON COLLEGE CAMPUSES
there
You know, you make coming to this forum kinda painful. Of all the people who post here you seem to be the most high and mighty with the least respect for other people's opinions. It's awesome to disagree, otherwise we wouldn't learn anything or get anywhere, but you don't have to be a dick about it, and you seem to have a particular dislike for me that I find quite baffling.
I'm not trying to be rude but it's a pattern I've noticed over time as I post in these threads. I apologize if I'm overstepping my bounds by saying so.
If someone asked me an hour ago "What are Yuri-G's opinions? What are his posts like?" I would've drawn a complete blank to be perfectly honest. I have literally no impression of you whatsoever beyond your histrionics regarding students complaining about shitty cafeteria food.
If you feel I'm overly aggressive towards you, it has nothing to do with you and everything to do with your posts, I have no opinion of you at all.
The Japanese student basically was complaining about that. She's also dead wrong and fucking retarded. The rest of the general gist of things is that they're just naming dishes that have some vague association with what they're making, except adding on a touch of "Yeah it's kinda racist the way they do it."
If you went to the imaginary "Just like Mom used to make" section and the menu had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and got a sourdough breadbowl filled with thai peanut sauce and some grapes, it would feel a little bit offensive to your mom to suggest she would be so incompetent as to serve you that shit.
I just yearn for the good old days where people weren't so afraid of being called PC and would just stand up and say that cole slaw on a Banh Mi is fucking bullshit.
Back in the day Internet neckbeards used to care about being right and things actually mattered. Now they're so afraid of looking like they are engaging in any sort of identity politics that a delicious dish like General Tso's chicken could be completely ruined with steamed chicken and everyone says "no, that's ok it's ruined, I wouldn't want to look like I'm sticking up for a culture by saying that it matters how it's prepared."
Don't let this happen.
I mean Church and Gad know how awesome General Tso's is, and I doubt they would tolerate some bullshit imposter in its place.
It is bullshit. But the food being shitty and not exactly "honest" isn't racist or appropriative or any of that type of nonsense that the students are bitching about. The food is just piss ass mock cafeteria food. But those poor poor unprivileged college students. Woe is them that they have to complain about food names. Their life is so oppressed cuz of that.
I also operate on what's retarded more. And it's more retarded, to me, that people are bitching about how authentic cafeteria food is, rather than it's actual authenticness. I'm sure these asstards go to Olive Garden for that REAL authentic italian experience. Or, y'know, really gobble down Panda Express or Pei Wei for some TRUELY traditional chinese meals. Totes.
Well, no one in the article in question mentioned anything about racism, so you can tuck that strawman back into the barn.
Most of the complaining students were literally from Vietnam, China, and Japan. If you went to China and were eating goddamn rice and noodles all day every day and saw a hamburger on the menu, but when you ordered it it was all fucked up, and you said "yo fuck this bullshit, you shouldn't even call this abomination a hamburger"
You'd be right. So what's the problem?
I'm pretty sure most rational people would be slightly confused, order something else, and get on with their fucking lives.
