The University of Connecticut has recently come under fire for planning to build an all-black male dormitory titled “SCHOLA2RS House” (Scholastic House Of Leaders who are African American Researchers and Scholars).

They linked to a SNOPES article that supposedly debunked their claims. I clicked it, hoping to see some redneck exaggerated the purpose of the dorm.

WHAT'S TRUE: UConn is launching a new initiative called "ScHOLA²RS," a scholastic program for black students.

WHAT'S FALSE: UConn is building a segregated dorm in which only black students may live.

If I apply to live in ScHOLA²RS House, will I be segregated from the rest of campus?

No. Typically, students do not spend their days in their residence hall.

Not at all. Our society started to crumble the day parents and teachers gave out awards for showing up, and stopped keeping score in competitions.

Nope, but just like a lot of other people you probably care more about a level playing field for college admissions than you do about the quality of primary education throughout the country.

A meritocracy is only fair in a perfect world where everyone has an equal opportunity to begin with.

I'm not even of the opinion that college is overly important for the majority of people.

That wasn't really directed to you in particular, but the argument about college admissions being more fair is a flawed one in that they wouldn't have to be "made fair" if the world was fair to begin with.

Most people are more bothered by affirmative action than the realities that make it necessary.
