Idk, I doubt there are even enough to make a difference in the overall rate, the idea made me chuckle tho.

Some people just can't accept other peoples sexuality. It's kind of ironic

There has been a similar campaign among fans to make Frozen's Elsa character a lesbian in future sequels. A bit different in that Elsa was never established as having any kind of sexual preference (and, well, its a children's movie) versus 70+ years of a heterosexual Captain America continuity. Plus, I think most of the people pushing for this Cap/Bucky thing are really only after it because of their Chris Evans/Sebastian Stan yaoi fantasies. Don't really see them campaigning for Cap to be gay in the comics or cartoons, for example.

Doing a Feminism is cancer speech, BLM shows up, security refuses to kick anyone out, now we sit back and enjoy the people whos event was disrupted march on Deans house.

Bonus: Got to watch BLM fight each other on livestream once all the other people in the auditorium left.

These people need a 2x4 to the face. The behavior needs to be discouraged or it will continue unabated.

I didn't enjoy the article very much due to its nonpartisan tone, but it did give me a new perspective about this strange, hyper-PC movement. I have had a hard time deciding exactly what is wrong with the movement, apart from the fact that everything they say feels like it's coming from the bottom of a slippery slope argument against liberal policies.

The idea that we mentally experience the world through the lens of our personal identity is not particularly novel. What "intersectionality" brings to the table is the thought that we can divide up our personal identity into separable components and that others with similar combinations of components are likely to experience the world in a way similar to ourselves. This is not to say that the world is different for a black woman than a white man, but that the way you interact with and experience the world is necessarily affected by your combination of identity components. Converting person to a list of traits is somewhere between inaccurate and reductionist, but overall the idea is probably not wrong. This is why we have X_minority student organizations, to facilitate social interactions that will make students feel less isolated and more normal by providing a cohort that experiences the world similarly.

What I dislike is that this idea is leaking out of the "mental experience" realm. Sometimes it does apply, but in many situations it is irrelevant.
    * You want to tell me I don't understand how being poor affects your decisions and emotional stability? Fine.
    * You want to tell me I'm not poor enough to understand how to do your taxes? You dumb.
    * You want to tell me I'm not religious enough to understand how singing in Church makes you feel? Point taken.
    * You want to tell me I'm not religious enough to evaluate the validity of the theory of intelligent design? Nopenopenope.

There are a variety of issues that fall somewhere between those examples, but what seems to be proving the most troubling is questions of policy. Every time someone makes a policy decision that involves you, they are shaping your options and determining what experiences you are likely to have. Some limitations could be good, like when someone decides to avoid declaring war and you are no longer able to get drafted and die at 23. They could also be bad, like when someone decides to make abortion illegal and you have no option but to become a 17 year old mom. They will affect both your emotional and physical experience as well as your opportunities in the future.

What I don't understand about this hyper-PC movement is the shift towards using policy to optimizing their emotional experiences, despite recognizing that emotional experiences are unique. I wish I could read an article on that shift instead of seeing another high profile "lol these kids" article. This optimizing of feelings definitely didn't start with college kids, and can be seen in many laws that pander(ed) to the feelings of majority factions (Christians, racists, etc.) I just don't know why this faction of the left has suddenly embraced it and decided that rather than purging such bullshit from our system there should be bullshit for every minority.

I mean, I pretty much bleed blue and I still don't give a flying fuck about the feels of 99.99999979% of the global human population. I always hope that policy makers make fact-based decisions that will keep us all healthy and safe. In my opinion, every individual is responsible for maintaining their own personal happiness and mental status, including seeking mental health assistance when appropriate.

I wonder how much of this is a result of 20 years of "everybody is a winner". These kids grew up with overprotective parents, who shielded them from anything that might upset or challenge them. The ones who were never told no. They always had mommy or daddy to fight their battles for them. Suddenly being on their own in college, they are turning to other ways to protect them from dealing with people they don't agree with.

A very large part. Coupled with their parents being in the driver's seat for policy making. It's amazingly depressing. Liberal arts academia is just awful.

How much of this could be dealt with by just being empathetic and not being a raging asshole to other people?
