Clearly with these weapons you are only allowed to use the merit ws. Putting on aftermath with a meh ws and then using better ws has never been a thing in this game

There's no reason to think that it can't. The merit weaponskills activate the aftermath, they aren't the only WS to get the bonus of Ultimate Skillchain.

Even if you can't, you might get enough silt given that it's double silt, triple EXP, and whatever increase in EXP/hour rate Reisen is over other zones.
