if you're in the correct folder where you did the search by modified, send to compressed folder (save to desktop) should end up with a single zip with folder structure intact

Second zip attempt, same result. All files are in the single zip, with no architecture and the size is 7.10 GB. I followed those instructions. I see the date and time modified and it is correct.

Hold on I got it. I was including the folders too. I did ONLY the .dats and it seems legit. 85MB.

Once installed, go to your PlayOnline folder
Right click Final Fantasy XI
click "Add to archive"
Click Files tab
set "File paths" to "Store relative paths"
Click Time tab
"Files to process" Include files "Modified after" then set relevant time.

i do, because people used to do updates when they got around to playing next. updates were infrequent, yes, but they weren't hyped. there was never any announcement of what was in the update to get excited about camping the check files button.

being just barely after midnight motivates more people to stay up and download the update.

Well I don't. Even finishing the patch updates within a few hours, there would still be >2000 players on less than 6 hours since servers go back up. Not only were there twice as many servers back then, but that's far higher numbers for the day after the patch even on the more populated servers now.

copied into folder, completely skipped everything check file/download update-related and logged directly into the game.
